“Hypodynamia is one of the most important problems of our century. More and more professions do not require active movement, which means people are walking less. A sedentary lifestyle has negative consequences for health. Not only the musculoskeletal system suffers, but also the digestive organs”.
What we’re talking about
Sedentary lifestyle and stomach problems: the connection
Everyone knows that sedentary lifestyle negatively affects the entire body, and the digestive organs are no exception. The gastrointestinal tract (GI tract) is highly dependent on how much we move during the day and the year as a whole. This is due to several mechanisms at once.
- First is the “tone” of the muscular organs (gallbladder, intestines, stomach). Low physical activity leads to a slowing down of their motility, causing corresponding diseases and conditions.
- Secondly, metabolic changes lead to excess fat accumulation in organs such as the liver and pancreas, which in turn leads to their inflammation and damage.
Diseases that develop with a sedentary lifestyle
Gallbladder
Gallbladder motility is not only related to nutrition, but also depends on physical activity in general. A sedentary lifestyle sooner or later can lead to stagnation in the bladder – on ultrasound you can see suspensions, sediment, flakes, clots and other signs of bile inhomogeneity. Without treatment, such problems often end up with the appearance of stones. That is why it is important not to miss this situation and see a doctor in time.
Intestines
Constipation often bothers people with a sedentary lifestyle. It is important to fight it in time, because this condition often has many consequences for the body. Diverticular disease of the intestine most often occurs against the background of long-term constipation. Diverticula (sac-like bulges of the intestine) in this case do not lend themselves to reverse development and can become inflamed at any time, putting a person’s life at risk.
Liver
Hypodynamia, especially in combination with nutritional disorders can lead to the development of fatty hepatosis. This disease is usually asymptomatic, and the symptoms are very minor – heaviness or discomfort in the right subcostal area. On ultrasound, you can see an enlarged liver, distal attenuation of the ECHO-signal, changes in tissue density and so on.
It is extremely important to adjust the diet with an increase in the proportion of fresh fiber and limitation of refractory fats (mutton, pork, goose, duck, fatty beef, poultry skin, margarine, mayonnaise, etc.).
Stomach
With a sedentary lifestyle in some cases there is a violation of timely emptying of the stomach, which is manifested by a feeling of heaviness, bloating after eating. Sometimes there is duodenogastric reflux – a condition where the contents of the duodenum are thrown back into the stomach.
The danger of this is that this affects the gastric mucosa, which is affected by many aggressive components.
Pancreas
A sedentary lifestyle also affects the pancreas. Excessive accumulation of fat in the organ leads to a gradual loss of its function. The less enzymes for effective digestion it produces, the more digestive problems can occur. Over time, the tolerance for large portions, fatty foods and any inaccuracy becomes very poor.
Prevention of sedentary lifestyle diseases
With a “sedentary” job, it is worth thinking about the prevention of many diseases. To reduce the risks of their occurrence, it is worth using active activity breaks. For example, every hour of work to get up from the table and do 20 squats or walk briskly at least three or four minutes.
Climbing stairs is also suitable, if there are no contraindications from the musculoskeletal system. You should walk about 10,000 steps a day. To assess physical activity will help special applications, for example, “Pedometer”.
The role of nutrition should also not be underestimated. Observance of a rational diet will not only allow you to maintain a normal weight, but also normalizes the work of the digestive organs.
Very useful for the body in such situations fiber – fresh herbs, cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, white cabbage, broccoli, apricots, prunes, all kinds of nuts, bran and so on. Sufficient will be the consumption of five to six servings of fiber per day. Preference should be given to thermally unprocessed versions.
