What can reconcile all this knowledge is Ayurveda, the science of life, which has its roots in the distant past and dates back some 5000 years. It is now quite modern in many approaches, but retains the knowledge gained thousands of years ago.

This system of knowledge suggests that we look at each person in terms of their constitution or psycho-physiological structure. Simply put, Ayurveda divides all people into three groups: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

Each of them corresponds to a special body structure, their own strengths and weaknesses of the body and personality, as well as the propensity to different kinds of diseases and emotions experienced.

In addition, Ayurveda teaches us that the health of the physical body begins with nutrition. For each constitution, or dosha, it recommends a specific approach to food.

Table of Contents

Vata

Vata dosha-dominated people are characterized by a frail build, sensitivity to cold, dry skin and mucous membranes, a predisposition to constipation, gas, insomnia, and a tendency toward anxiety and fear.

To help this group of people, Ayurveda recommends favoring cooked and warm foods, which should always contain fat or oil.

Raw vegetable salads are not at all suitable for them and can often lead to large intestine problems. Soups and stews of vegetables with porridge and protein will bring calmness and moisture to people of this constitution.

We can also use warm spices such as bay leaf, allspice, cardamom, cumin, dill seed. All of them will help to warm up Vata dosha people from within.

It is strongly recommended that such people give up raw fruits and vegetables, especially during the aggravation of the above symptoms, as well as dry foods like chips, cookies, roasted seeds and nuts.

Pitta

Pitta-dominant people are characterized by medium-sized bodies, fair skin and gray, green or blue eyes. They learn well, are good at articulating their thoughts and rely on logic and facts in life.

Most often Pittas suffer from inflammation, which often manifests itself in redness and rashes on the skin, eye irritation, diarrhea, sour taste in the mouth and heartburn.

Psychologically, anger, criticism, irritability, desire to compete and control can manifest themselves vividly. To cope with these problems, people of this constitution are recommended to eat more green leafy vegetables.

Such foods contain cool-tasting chlorophyll, which helps reduce inflammation in the body and cool the hot mind. In addition, Pittas are sensitive to fatty and fried foods, as well as overheated oil.

A vegetarian diet would be ideal for them, with occasional consumption of dairy products and sometimes eggs. It is important to reduce the consumption of any fermented products and consume, for example, sauerkraut, not a bowl at a time, but two tablespoons.

Recommended spices for the Pitta constitution are traditionally fennel, coriander and cumin.

Kapha

Kapha is characterized by a tendency to gain weight, be calm and submissive. They are low-conflict and sedentary. This type of person often suffers from bronchitis and nasal congestion, as well as constipation and edema.

By nature Kaphas like to take care and support, but in a state of imbalance suffer from hoarding, greed and are unwilling to let go of people close to them.

To cope with this, Ayurveda recommends controlling portion size and not overeating. Significantly reduce the intake of sugar, flour and dairy products in any form.

Most of the food should be vegetables that have grown above ground and protein, preferably plant-based. Kaphas are well tolerated by legumes, with which it is highly recommended to diversify their diet.

Of the spices for this constitution it is recommended to use spicy, that which warms the blood, such as any peppers, fenugreek, cumin, cumin, bay leaf, dry ginger, thyme and basil.

If possible, carbohydrate intake should be reduced and cooked vegetables should be at least 50% of the volume of the entire plate.
