The new sports collections that inspired us

Dedicated to the Olympics, Black History Month and imbued with the spirit of expeditions.

February is one of the most novelty-rich months: ahead of the spring season, brands release new collections and present to the public what we will be wearing in the coming months. The sports world is always at the forefront, using any infomercial for a collaboration or capsule collection. This season, designers are inspired by the Olympics, basketball, and cheer month.

Black History Month by Nike

Nike is celebrating Black History Month this year with the release of a new line of Air Force 1 Low FM sneakers. The brand has been releasing special collections for this month since as far back as 2005 in an effort to honor African American heritage and celebrate its black employees. The company sees this gesture as a necessity to inspire positive change in the community and raise awareness of the issue.

The foundation of the collection was created by this year’s anniversary sneakers, the iconic Air Force 1 in three variants, each designed by black creators.

This year, Nike also announced a $140 million national and local grant that invests the company in organizations that promote social justice and innovations in education and economic opportunity for black people.

The Nike Air Force 1 Low FM by You sneakers, along with the accompanying Future Movement apparel collection, are available now on the company’s website.

For the Olympic collection, the brand opted for a retro direction. Even the Team USA logo was redesigned specifically for the style of the Beijing Games.

The collection has both super bright elements and calmer ones. And there is something that makes this collection stand out among others – snowboards from CAPiTA brand and thermal mugs from Corkcicle.

This is such a triple collaboration in one style. Anyone can buy things, but, unfortunately, it is delivered only within the mainland. Anyone flying to America? Take it, you definitely won’t regret it!

NBA × Canada Goose × Salehe Bembury

In 2022, the National Basketball Association celebrates its 75th anniversary. And last year, right before the All-Star Game, the association agreed to a long-term partnership with Canada Goose. Hence the alliance.

Canada Goose is an established brand, but Salehi is just starting out as an independent designer. He has already worked with Yeezy, New Balance, Crocs and Off-White.

The new collection is infused with ’90s freedom: bold, functional and limitless. It includes quilted overalls, several variations of jackets and an expedition parka as the crown of the collection.

The young designer’s signature touches – fingerprint print and zigzag seams – are not missing. The whole line is made in muted colors, in keeping with the camouflage theme.
