5 unusual basketball courts of the world. Anyone can play

Fortunately, the time has come when unusual basketball courts are not only appearing in Michael Jordan’s homeland. Today, traveling anywhere in the world, you can add to your itinerary a court on which it is completely free to throw the ball.

Such courts perform three important functions at once: they popularize sports, give an opportunity for street creative teams to express themselves and are a point of attraction on the city’s tourist route.

We have collected five sites that are worth visiting.

Recycled sneakers playground, Belgrade

A basketball court made of 20,000 pairs of old recycled sneakers was opened in New Belgrade.

As part of the Move to zero campaign, the Nike brand broadcast the message of the importance of preserving the environment. The campaign managed to gather 20,000 Belgraders who donated their old sneakers for one noble cause that will leave a mark on future generations.

Puma Hoops Flacon, Moscow

A sports art object has been placed on the territory of the Flacon design factory. It is a small but very colorful court.

Initially, the court had a complex and bright geometric design, thanks to which it was considered a landmark of this district of Moscow. But in August 2020 the court was renewed.

Thanks to the joint efforts of PlayStroy, artist Andrei Berger and Puma brand, it changed its look and became known as PUMA Hoops Flacon.

The location is open to anyone who wants to hone their gaming skills or take a fashion photo.

3D Playground, Munich

A unique 3D court combining a functional zone and an art object has been opened on the territory of a school in Munich.

Street stationary basketball stands are installed on an artificial surface imitating a hilly terrain. Athletes have to not only follow the ball, but also run up and down, which, on the one hand, complicates the game, on the other hand, gives it an additional drive.

Here you can sit (or lie down), rest between classes, prepare for an exam or just spend time in a pleasant company with friends.

PS152, New York City

This colorful location is the 21st completed project for the reconstruction of the grounds of the charity agency 35ventures, which was created by NBA player Kevin Durant.

The playground was painted by renowned New York artist Timothy Goodman. “Now more than ever, children need safe and quality spaces,” the agency writes. And the artist notes that this playground has become one of his most striking works.

Bondi Beach, Australia

In May 2021, the National Basketball Association in collaboration with the Hennessy brand opened a new basketball court in an unusually beautiful location on the Australian coast.

The place resembles a large swimming pool (it may well have been there). But now the eye-catching court has settled there. The gorgeous black basketball court, designed by Sydney studio Messa, looks defiant and rebellious against the turquoise water.
