Don’t panic. How to protect yourself from coronavirus

It seems that even small children have heard about the unfortunate coronavirus. The virus continues its deadly march, covering more and more territories. As of today, only one country – Montenegro – has not been infected. But what about the rest of the world?

What is a coronavirus?

It is a large group of viruses, which includes more than 30 species. They primarily affect animals, but in humans they can also provoke diseases and complications of varying degrees.

The virus is spreading at a tremendous rate. According to the National Health Commission of China, more than 80 thousand confirmed cases of the disease have been registered in the country so far. The number of infections worldwide, according to the SCMP, has increased by 8,000 to 126,575 in two days. There are 28 infected people in Russia.

Among the sick there are celebrities: actor Tom Hanks and his wife, Juventus soccer player Daniele Rugani, French Minister of Culture Frank Rister.

Pediatrician, MD Anna Levadnaya: There is good news! In China, the epidemic has gone down. This happens because the person adapts to the virus, the virus itself changes, there is an immune layer in society, which leads to a natural decrease in mortality. Well and excellent measures of isolation of the sick.

2. Keep your distance. The virus is transmitted by airborne droplets, such as sneezing or coughing, so try to keep a distance of at least a meter from the sick. Although we understand that this is almost unrealistic on public transportation. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. The best thing is to wear a medical mask.

Anna Levadnaya: The mortality rate from coronavirus today is 2-3%. More than 80% of people carry the virus easily (and probably more).

3. Lead a healthy lifestyle. Although many people say that alcohol can protect against the effects of coronavirus, the Department of Health warns otherwise. Large doses, on the other hand, can lower your immunity.

4. Protect your respiratory system. Medical masks can help you do this. They can be disposable or reusable, but they must fit your nose and mouth well and leave no gaps. Also, a mask is not advisable in the open air.

Important: You can’t wear the same mask all the time, even if it is reusable. Change it at least several times a day.
