Moscow. September 4. The atmosphere of the evening city was broken by a sharp and rolling sound of engines. The international festival of extreme sports “Breakthrough” reminded of itself again. The 14th edition of the sports festival was held in the open air for the first time. The disciplines of the festival included drifting, freestyle motocross, freestyle on snowmobiles, power extreme, BMX freestyle and scooters.
The event also featured notable stuntmen, one of whom was Terry Grant. The Briton is not the first time in Moscow, but he tried to surprise the local audience in a new way. This time his performance involved two specially prepared cars: Legends series and Range Rover SVR. After his performance Terry shared that he enjoyed being in the capital of Russia again, and also told about the tricks he has done, is doing and will do again.
Terry is a multiple holder of world records and Guinness World Records related to stunts on cars. He also founded an extreme driving school where he endeavors to pass on the exceptional knowledge and skills he possesses to his students.
Stunt driver and multiple Guinness World Record holder
Talks about risk, dangerous stunts, favorite cars and which movie character he associates himself with.
– What’s the hardest stunt you’ve ever done?
– The most difficult stunt is of course the Barrel roll, because I’ve been preparing for a long time to do it properly. It took practically two years from the time I came up with the idea and started practicing to actually doing it.
– You have so many records. Is there anything else you’d like to do, like a dream stunt, the craziest one?
– Yeah. I’ve been doing a lot of big jumps lately. So I want to jump over some buses like Evel Knievel(American stuntman who became world famous for his risky motorcycle stunts.–Ed.) So yeah, I’ve practiced it and I know I can fly over 20 double-decker buses.
– 20 buses? Really?
– Yeah, that was pretty cool. I also think I can do a somersault on a car, and we’re going to start working on that idea. Once the funding is in place, we’ll start thinking if we can do it and if it’s even possible.
– What was the most dangerous stunt of your career where you may have seen the light at the end of the tunnel?
– Yeah, that’s happened a few times(laughs). I mean, the most dangerous stunt can’t go wrong, and hopefully that never happens. There was a big loop. To make a mistake there, flipping over and being upside down, it wouldn’t be nice. It’s really dangerous. When I decide to do something like that, I’m very confident and I know I’m going to come out the other side.
– You’ve had a lot of different cars in your career. Which one is the happiest and why?
– I think the happiest are the little Legends because that’s where my career started and I still use them when I’m performing. I have them in my collection and they are scattered all over the world. It’s great that I still enjoy driving them because you can do a lot of cool tricks with them, especially in tight spaces. These cars are very strong.
– If it’s no secret, how much does one of these cars cost?
– I think it’s about $ 20 thousand (about 1.5 million rubles).
– It turns out that the risk is just an illusion?
– Absolutely. It’s all about entertainment, of course. And that’s what I specialize in.
– You have your own extreme driving school. Is there anyone who can beat your records? I mean, some of your students.
– I’m sure there are. Some put their heart and soul into it. I’m sure they can break records. There are a lot of great boys and girls who are still learning, they are very confident and very good. But again, a master will never teach his apprentice all the secrets. And also, the more apprentices, the more records.
– So you don’t reveal all your secrets?
– No, of course not(laughs).
– That’s great. Stunts are one of the main things in movies, so what movie could be a reflection of your life? Which movie characters do you associate yourself with?
– There are a lot of great movies, maybe Forrest Gump. He actually runs and runs and keeps running. I’m still “running” years later too.
– Thanks, Terry. Looks like you’re gonna have to go out again.
– You are welcome. Yeah, we’re about to have our final ride.
