Olympic chic: 10 most stylish national teams

The parade of athletes at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games attracts the attention of spectators from all over the world not only because you can meet the representatives of all the teams and greet your idols with a standing ovation from the stands, but also because the parade is an opportunity to get a better look at and evaluate the outfits of the athletes of the national teams. In our selection we have gathered 10 of the most memorable, in our opinion, costumes that the world saw at the opening ceremony of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

Australian team

The Australian team came to the opening ceremony in dark silver jackets, sea-wave pants with yellow flecks and hats of the same color. The colors are not bright, but form a pleasant enough combination. The flag was carried by Australian snowboarder Scotty James.

Bermuda national team

Bermuda’s representatives distinguished themselves with extraordinary costumes: they were dressed rather summer-like, despite the fact that 20-degree frosts had settled in PyeongChang. Red knee-high shorts, black socks, white blouses, black jackets and red scarves – strange, but certainly original. The flag bearer is skier Tucker Murphy.

Team Sweden

The bright and memorable uniforms of the Swedish athletes are the result of collaboration with the famous clothing brand H&M. At the opening ceremony athletes walked around the stadium in bright golden down jackets and stylish scarves with the inscription Swerige.

Georgian national team

The white and blue uniforms of the Georgian athletes attracted with their pattern: intersecting lines of blue color reminds of cubism – simple but tasteful. The country’s flag was carried by figure skater Maurice Kvitelashvili.

Canadian national team

At first glance there is nothing unusual in the uniform of the Canadian national team: traditional red color in clothes and shoes, black stripe on the chest and the inscription “Canada”. But the combination of contrasting colors catches the eye, and a bright detail in the form of a white maple leaf on the athletes’ backs really catches the eye. The team is led by pair skaters Tessa Vertue and Scott Moir.

Team Jamaica

The modest but functional uniforms of the Jamaican athletes are a collaboration with the famous sports brand Puma.

Russian national team

According to the requirements announced by the IOC before the start of the Olympics 13, the uniforms of the Russians should not contain the coat of arms of the Russian Federation, the emblem of the Russian Olympic Committee, and the colors should not be folded into the tricolor. The respected American publication Wall Street Journal called the team of “Olympic athletes from Russia” the most stylish at the Games. The outfitter of our national team was the company ZASPORT. Recall that in light of the pre-Olympic events related to the admission status of our national team, two collections of sports uniforms were released.

Team USA

The Americans’ appearance at the opening ceremony was remembered not so much for their white-blue-red outfit and knitted sweaters of the same color as for their huge beige-brown gloves with fringe. The team is led by tobogganist Erin Hamlin.

Team Tonga

Team Tonga surprised not so much with their clothes as with their lack of them: skier Pita Taufatofua, who acted as flag bearer, spectacularly entered the arena bare-chested and wearing a red-and-black armband.

Team Finland

The Finns came out to parade the athletes in white and blue uniforms with gray patterns, orange flecks and black inserts. The hats were also patterned – orange and white for the women and greenish white for the men. It turned out to be a mix of different colors, which adds up to the overall picture. The flag bearer of the Finnish national team is ski jumper Janne Ahonen.

Some of the most common color schemes at the opening of the Olympics in Pyeongchang were black and red outfits, which could be seen, in particular, on athletes from India, Belgium, Macedonia, Belarus, as well as dark blue uniforms, such as those of the national teams of Argentina, Italy, France and Greece. Russian athletes were banned from using the country’s traditional colors in their clothes, but the white and gray uniforms of our athletes definitely did not lose the case at this “fashion court”.
