What is the relationship between foot size and life expectancy?

Even such seemingly insignificant factors matter.

Longevity is influenced by many factors. Of course, achieving longevity is helped by proper nutrition, sufficient physical activity and the absence of bad habits. However, there are also not so obvious aspects.

Swedish scientists have discovered that the size of the foot can determine how long a person lives.

What is the relationship between foot size and life expectancy?

Scientists from Sweden analyzed the life expectancy of 800 men and women from all over the country. It turned out that there was a pattern between the age of death and foot size.

For example, on average, women with a size 40-41 lived to be 66-70 years old. And men who passed away at age 67-69 had a size 46-48 foot. If you look at the ratio table, you can see that life expectancy is longer for people with an average foot size (size 42-43 for men and 36-37 for women).

Does foot size really affect longevity?

Nevertheless, scientists noted that one cannot rely solely on the results of the study. While there is a definite pattern, other factors that influence longevity should not be neglected.

Researchers say that the work could be considered absolutely true if all the people in the study had a healthy lifestyle and did not have any diseases.

What else does life expectancy depend on?

Every year, many studies on the topic of longevity are published.

For example, scientists from Spain in 2015 found that women live longer than men because of hormones. The female hormone estrogen increases the activity of genes responsible for longevity. It also helps to eliminate cholesterol from the body, which reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. While the male hormone testosterone tends to drive men to various risky activities – fighting, speeding, extreme sports, etc.

Dutch neuroscientist Dick Swaab found out that life expectancy is also affected by metabolism and brain size. He writes about the results of his research in the book “We are our brain: from uterus to Alzheimer’s”. The more active the brain, the greater its size and, according to the scientist, longevity. In addition, brain stimulation helps avoid Alzheimer’s disease.

While various factors affect longevity, you shouldn’t rely entirely on hormones or leg size. In any case, you should not forget about an active lifestyle and proper nutrition – they will certainly help you keep your body young and your mind alert for longer.
