What are Tonal and Tempo Studio and how do they differ?

Tonal and Tempo Studio are two different fitness systems, but the principle of their work is almost the same. The designs are fitness equipment with a built-in touch screen. In fact, it is a full-fledged gym with all the necessary equipment, which will fit even in a single room (to the delight of homebodies and introverts) – Tonal is attached to the wall, and Tempo Studio is installed on the floor. Besides the fact that the systems look very futuristic and mega-cool, they come with a portable trainer, a personal coach, online broadcasts of all types of classes and a personal training program. How does it work?

Tonal consists of two height-adjustable traction trainers and can support a load of up to 90 kilograms. The system adapts the workout to the user – it adjusts the load and even monitors the exercise technique. You can’t cheat – the digital screen is embedded with 3D sensors that track movements – there are as many as 17 of them in Tonal. Of course, the system is not yet able to make remarks, but it can make corrections. For example, it can increase or decrease weight in real time (sounds terrifying).

The system provides access to workouts and live broadcasts for all muscle groups – cardio, Pilates, yoga, stretching, barre, HIIT, kickboxing, strength training (Lower body, Upper body, Body Pump), dancing and even postpartum fitness. The manufacturers have also taken care of couples – the system includes individual workouts for partners, virtual group workouts and about 170 exercises that can be mixed at your discretion. Such a thing is not cheap: about 3 thousand dollars (from 200 thousand rubles). Plus you need to additionally buy dumbbells, a barbell and a bench for the press – and this is another 500 dollars (about 40 thousand). It is good to know that within 30 days after the purchase the training equipment can be returned. By the way, last year the company’s revenue grew eight times. Tempo Studio is also equipped with infrared motion sensors and a 3D camera – the system monitors the position of the back, legs and arms in real time. Before starting, the device asks for height, weight and age. Then it calculates how many calories the user needs to burn and what weights to start with. The trainer determines the amplitude of movements, calculates the repetitions of exercises and makes corrections in the form of notifications on the display.

There are cardio, HIIT, yoga, boxing and strength training – the rest can be purchased for an additional fee. You’ll have to pay $39 for a monthly subscription. But there’s good news – under the touch screen is a locker with sports equipment: weight pancakes, mat, dumbbells, barbell, massage roller, folding bench, weights and heart rate monitor.
