We have never been so wrong before. Results of the special editorial project

For 30 days, the participants of the special editorial project were getting in shape, losing weight, gaining muscle mass and watching their diet. We have prepared for you a compilation of material in which we decided to debunk the most important myths and stereotypes that arise for all newcomers embarking on the long and thorny path of healthy lifestyle.

Maxim Syreyshchikov – Managing Director of “Championship”

Goal: family and work occupy almost all the free time I have now, so I’m not ready to spend a lot of time in the gym and it’s important for me to make every training session as effective as possible. So if we talk about my goal for the project, I would like to improve the quality of my body, my physical condition and emphasize the workout of individual areas.

Result: 3 workouts a week for a month together with personal trainer Vladimir Bardin in World Class Vlasova. Goal achieved.

Myth 1: Stretching is not important.

I was first of all surprised that the process of achieving stretching takes much more time than I thought it would, and that my stretching over 15 years of soccer turned out to be no stretching at all. That is, I used to only stretch two out of 10 muscles. Therein lies the first surprising aspect of individualized sessions with a trainer.

Myth 2. The fitness gym is a place where jocks congregate.

I played soccer in the gym my entire childhood, and there was a jock gym there too. In the same gym, by the way, former Russian national team striker Pasha Pogrebnyak and his brothers practiced. And there, of course, was such a rocking gym that pancakes were ringing, men were walking round with voices like Italian singers in the renaissance. But here, it’s totally different. A bunch of runners, cyclists, all training for health, stretching, preparing for races. And if there are jocks, they’re more likely to command respect. At least they are not the antipode of the ideal to which you yourself aspire.

Myth 3: On a treadmill, you have to run as hard as you can to get results.

In terms of cardio, I was going into my workouts as a person, to put it mildly, prepared for running. But then I realized that I can run a lot in my mode, rhythm, with breaks, and to run three kilometers without stopping at a speed of 20 km / h – it is a little bit bordering on my maximum. It was interesting just to walk on the treadmill. When you walk, you sweat a lot more, your heart rate zone stays up, and you feel all the toxins coming out of you at that moment, unlike running. All because in running, the faster you run, the easier it actually is for you. Well, for me at least. A quick shot and off you go.

Polina Sycheva – journalist, freelancer

Goal: to get in shape. To lose five kilograms, but more importantly – to qualitatively improve the relief of my body and reduce the volume.

Result: minus 5 kilograms in a month. The goal is achieved.

Myth 1: Training in the gym does not change your lifestyle.

First of all, I realized that training is not just time you spend doing some activity. There’s no such thing as working out three or four times a week for two hours and the rest of the time you live your life at your usual pace. When you start working out and you really want to get results, your whole life is subordinated to that. You think about your diet, about sleep, about how to build a regimen so you don’t come to the workout tired, how to postpone and reschedule things so you don’t miss a class. It becomes not just something you spend time on, but a way of life.

Myth 2. Variety in workouts is a must.

In the beginning, I thought that I had to change the type of activity every time I did it so that I wouldn’t get bored and exercise wouldn’t get boring. It turns out that I was wrong. Now I am sure that any sport has thousands of subtleties that are very interesting to learn and master. It is always interesting to try new things, but to improve myself in something specific turned out to be much more exciting.

Myth 3: Eating right is easy.

It seemed that following the right diet is very easy. You realize what you can, what you can not, what consequences can be, and just follow this vector. But in reality, even realizing that I am responsible for the results, it is quite difficult not to eat some chocolate that I really want. To the rescue came useful, but no less tasty products, which I previously, unfortunately, did not know about. So the world of proper nutrition is something fantastic too!

Goal: to lose weight by converting all the excess into muscle.

Result: minus 4 kg. Goal achieved.

Myth 1: Training in the gym is boring.

I have never liked the gym, I always preferred it to outdoor exercise. The project made me reconsider my views. I just fell in love with “iron”. Choose a fitness club near your office. World Class Tulskaya gym in the middle of the working day – a very cool feeling. Go in the morning – a charge for the whole day. To go in the evening – a perfect end of the working day. Sometimes I was even upset that all the volume for the day is already done.

Myth 2. To lose weight, you need to eat little and only vegetables and cereals.

It turns out that to lose weight, it is not necessary to eat only vegetables and cereals. The diet plan, which was made for me by a professional nutritionist, turned out to be very diverse. And most importantly, I could eat meat, soups, fish and many more different products. Losing weight is delicious…

Myth 3: It’s easy to follow the diet.

The most difficult task was following the diet. I work as a journalist, and my schedule is very irregular. Eating six meals a day at a certain time – is that even possible? Cooking at home for a day or two in advance, and even after a 13-hour workday? Tom Cruise’s character in Mission Impossible is a pathetic amateur. For me, this became the most challenging element of the special project.

Dayana Mukhametzhanova – student.

Goal: to lose weight by 5 kg.

Result: minus 3.5 kg. The goal is not achieved.

Myth 1: Proper nutrition is not tasty.

The most important discovery for me was that healthy eating is not only boiled chicken and buckwheat. It always seemed to me that in order to switch to a healthy diet, you should exclude everything delicious from your diet and in the end you will be left with only bland food. In fact, it turned out that there are thousands of different ways to cook the same chicken, and it will have a new flavor every time. But besides that, it turned out that there is a huge variety of tasty and at the same time healthy foods that I didn’t know about before.

Myth 2: Working out makes you tired.

Thanks to my participation in a special project, I learned that exercise produces serotonin, a chemical often referred to as the “joy hormone”. And indeed, once I started exercising on a regular basis, I noticed how much my mood changed for the better. So sport turned out to be the most effective way to maintain vitality and not feel tired at the end of the day.

Myth 3: You can’t do anything without a personal trainer.

My biggest fear at the beginning of my training was the fear of not being able to do it on my own. I was sure that without a gym and a personal trainer I wouldn’t be able to do anything. But I discovered the wonderful world of modern technology that helps those who have no idea where to start. I found programs on the Internet that count how many steps you’ve walked during the day, remind you that it’s time to replenish the water balance in your body, calculate your calories and much more. Moreover, Instagram now has an endless number of pages where people share recipes for cooking the right food for free, as well as post photos and videos of workouts for all muscle groups with detailed descriptions. Thanks to all this, anyone can independently and quite successfully engage in sports.
