How to ride an electric scooter safely

Study them to avoid harming yourself and those around you.

What many citizens have been waiting for is about to happen. As official sources say, electric scooters will soon be subject to the rules of the road. And it’s not just going to happen. You’ve probably heard that people on electric scooters are often involved in accidents. Or even encountered unscrupulous riding on the street yourself. In the near future, electric scooters, gyroscooters, segways, monocycles and various analogs will receive the status of “means of individual mobility”. In this case, the main characteristics will not change – the maximum speed of 25 km / h, and the mass will not exceed 35 kg.

The movement of scooters and other means of individual mobility will be regulated by new road signs: “permission”, “restriction” or “prohibition” to move in a particular area. Anyway, it is necessary to remember about your safety, even when you ride a harmless “toy”. What you need to buy, why you need it and how to stay in good health without harming yourself and others – read below.

Safety rules for riding an electric scooter

Safety issues should always be considered in a complex. This means that you should think about personal safety, the serviceability of the equipment and the place where you will be. In addition, it is not superfluous to think about the emergencies that can happen to you: from the weather to the theft of your “jewelry”. There is no point in putting it off any longer, as there are not many rules. They’re all simple and you probably know them, but it’s still worth repeating.

  • Wear protective gear when traveling: helmet, gloves, knee pads.
  • Maintain a safe speed. It doesn’t have to be the maximum 25 km/h. Look at the situation and the surrounding conditions.
  • Avoid sudden and spectacular braking. Do them smoothly, carefully and attentively.
  • Use both hands to control the scooter.
  • Try not to use gadgets or your cell phone while driving. If there is no other option, stop, do your business and only then drive on.
  • Avoid riding on roads with poor pavement, potholes and crowds.
  • Do not ride an electric scooter with two people.
  • Observe the rules of the road.
  • Be aware that riding on electric scooters is permitted on bike lanes and paths, cycle paths and pedestrian paths.
  • Do not carry heavy or bulky items that could affect the trajectory and your balance when riding.
  • Be aware of the weather. Riding in the rain is not recommended due to the risk of falls.
  • Do not repair or modify electrical equipment yourself. Check that the equipment is in good working order before riding.

The rules may seem frivolous and meaningless to you. But they are not. Believe me, it’s better to wear a helmet or reduce speed before crossing a crosswalk than to suffer the consequences of your carelessness.
