Where did aerobics begin?

Jane Fonda is not only a famous American actress, but also the main ideologist of aerobics. When she broke her leg on the set of one of her movies and could no longer attend the usual ballet studio, she switched to aerobics. At the time, gyms in the U.S. were catering to bodybuilders, but in the late 1970s, Fonda began her fitness revolution. She began to open fitness clubs across the country, which trained according to the method of her name. In 1981, the American released the book “Workout with Jane Fonda”, and the next year – the first video lessons on the book.

The actress was 45 years old when she began to popularize women’s workouts and gave birth to the fashion for elbows, gaiters and sports bodysuits. Girls in brightly colored bodysuits and tights to rhythmic music showed simple exercises that required minimal equipment – a mat, a chair and a pair of dumbbells. The exercises were versatile and not boring, at the same time working all the muscles of the body, developing flexibility, strengthening the cardiovascular system and burning calories.

In the 1990s, the ideas of the Foundation were taken up by supermodels, who were then considered the ideal of beauty. Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford – these names rattled the world. And although video tutorials to improve the body released many models, it was the lessons of Crawford gained rabid popularity.

Training with Crawford. What is the secret of popularity?

Exercises, which showed Crawford, were developed by her personal trainer Radu Teodorescu. The fact that the model was prone to obesity, did not like diets and running and other usual sports to keep in shape, and was looking for other ways to fit into the notorious standard “90-60-90”.

Thanks to Radu exercises Cindy easily managed to maintain the right proportions – at a height of 176 cm she weighed 56 kg. In 1992, one of the most popular models released the first cassette with exercises, which remained a best-seller for 10 years.

Most of the exercises are performed only with your own body weight, which means you can do them anywhere – at home, at the cottage, in nature or, like Cindy herself, on the ocean.

Another big plus of Cindy’s workouts is the balance of cardio and strength exercises, which increase the effectiveness of the exercises. Stamina develops, stretching improves, large muscle groups are engaged, and the body gradually becomes tighter and slimmer.
