Air conditioning is not the healthiest way to cool a room. There are other ways to do it.

Keep the blinds closed

Shutters, roller blinds, and thick curtains are good options to reduce the amount of sunlight entering your home. You can cover the windows with foil or reflective material. This will help minimize the amount of sun in the room.

Put things in order

For the summer it is better to get rid of carpets and textiles, down to pillows and soft toys. Such things absorb heat and keep it inside the room. A spacious and clean room ensures proper air circulation in the room.

Change your sleeping place

If it’s hot at night and your blankets and mattress are keeping you awake, get a thin futon or try sleeping on a yoga mat, replacing your regular pillow with a bolster and your blanket with a sheet.

Use a humidifier or ozone machine

The plus side of these appliances is that they moisturize the air, as opposed to air conditioning, which dehumidifies the room.

If you don’t have any of these on hand, you can spray the space with cool water from a sprayer. But don’t overdo it or you’ll create a greenhouse.

Damp clean regularly

Wipe the floor and surfaces with a damp cloth at least once a day. This will cool the room down a bit and prevent dry air. At the very least, the apartment will breathe easier. Large-leaved houseplants can also help to improve the air quality and cool the room down a bit.

Place ice in front of the fan

If you use a fan, place a bowl of cold water or ice in front of it. Don’t have a fan? No big deal. Place bowls around the perimeter of the room, and then the room will be a little cooler.

Turn off appliances and lights

Try to keep appliances, light bulbs, ovens and stoves off. Modern electronics create heat and raise the temperature of the room.

Do not eat heavy foods

To normalize your body temperature, favor light foods that do not require long digestion. And do not forget to drink more water. It is better to choose in favor of mineral water saturated with electrolytes.

Make a long-term investment

Take some measures well in advance. For example, during the decoration and layout of the apartment, take into account the amount of sunlight that enters the rooms through the windows. Choose the right materials, furniture and even the color of wallpaper to avoid excessive heating.

In the case of the sunny side, bet on light-colored walls, natural stone and ceramics. It is also possible to “cover” the apartment with a material that will not let in either cold or heat, keeping the temperature in the room like a thermos.
