Seven sweats gone: how to reduce sweating while working out

Sweating is an absolutely natural, necessary process for the body. Its character depends on both the physiological characteristics of a person and the intensity of the exercises performed. Nevertheless, not everyone likes to finish training in clothes soaked with sweat. We consulted with cosmetologist and dermatologist Elena Gretsova and found out which ways to reduce sweating are the most effective and safe.

Why do we sweat during exercise?

When a person exercises, the body produces a huge amount of heat, which causes the body temperature to rise. The skin glands become more active: sweat is produced, the evaporation of which leads to a gradual cooling of the body.

If a person completely stops sweating, the body will overheat, which will lead to heat stroke, high blood pressure and other unpleasant consequences. Nevertheless, it is quite possible to reduce the intensity of sweating. The main thing is to resort to proven methods.

How can you reduce sweating?

Deodorants and antiperspirants

The most famous and accessible way to fight sweating is the use of deodorants and antiperspirants.

Deodorant, thanks to the presence of antibacterial substances (e.g. triclosan), prevents the growth of bacteria and eliminates unpleasant odor, and its effect is weakened after a few hours.

Antiperspirants include stronger substances (aluminum salts, zinc), which penetrate the sweat glands, completely blocking sweating. Antiperspirants, unlike deodorants, work much longer – on average from 24 to 36 hours.

If you are going to a training session with a visit to a sauna/bath where you need to sweat well, it is better to avoid applying deodorants and antiperspirants immediately before the trip, as there is a risk of skin reactions. In this case, the safest option would be the following route: attend a workout with a steaming session, then shower and then apply deodorant or antiperspirant.

Hardware radio wave treatment

One of the newer techniques is hardware radio wave treatment for excessive sweating. However, here it is necessary to undergo a course to achieve results. In addition, there are many contraindications.

Botulinum therapy

According to the cosmetologist, the most studied and safe technique in this situation is the botulinotherapy procedure. This is an injectable procedure of subcutaneous injection of botulinum toxin in places of excessive sweating. Botulinum toxin blocks the transmission of impulses from nerve endings to sweat glands, and after some time everything is restored. The effect of one procedure is enough on average for 3-8 months. Of the minuses – a slight soreness at the introduction, however, with the use of external anesthesia unpleasant sensations are minimized.

When choosing a method to reduce sweating, take into account the peculiarities of your body. If necessary, consult a specialist.
