What to cook with watermelon? Unexpected recipes

Unusual recipes with watermelon have become popular recently. It turned out that the large berry can be fried, pickled, combined with cheeses, herbs and spices. Salmon fillets are marinated in watermelon juice, and fresh cubes are mixed in salads with feta and sweet fruits. The berry harmonizes with ice cream, many vegetables and lime. And the variations depend only on fantasy and imagination.

We collected several unusual dishes and learned from a nutriciologist about the features of watermelon.

Watermelon is a mixture of water (90% of the composition) and fast carbohydrates. But despite its low calorie content, abusing it can raise the glycemic index. This is not good for people suffering from diabetes and pre-diabetes.

It is worth eating no more than 100 g a day, and in diabetes mellitus and should abstain from the berry altogether. To eliminate excess sugar, the body has to spend a large amount of water, and watermelon itself has a diuretic effect. And, contrary to popular belief, not slags and toxins, but minerals are removed from the body.

Another side effect is the provocation of kidney stones. Therefore, the consumption of watermelon should be limited to those who have been diagnosed with urolithiasis.

Watermelons contain folic acid, magnesium, antioxidants, but all this pales against the background of a high amount of fructose. Watermelon seeds are more useful and valuable sources of minerals and vitamins. But it is better to eat them dried.

Watermelon salad

You will need:

  • watermelon – about 400 g;
  • Borodinsky bread – 1/2 loaf;
  • red onion (preferably sweet) – 1 small bulb;
  • garlic – 3 cloves;
  • lemon – 1/2 pc;
  • salt to taste;
  • vegetable oil – 1 tbsp.

Cut the Borodino bread into small cubes. Transfer them into a deep dish, add garlic, salt and vegetable oil. Mix thoroughly. Place the bread on a baking tray and cook in a preheated oven for about 10 minutes at 180 degrees. It should remain soft inside and crispy on the outside.

Cut the onions into thin half rings and drizzle with lemon juice. Stir and let stand for about 10 minutes. Cut the rind off the watermelon and cut the flesh into small cubes (remove the pips).

Mix watermelon and onion. Add breadcrumbs and decorate the salad with fresh berries or figs.

Appetizer and main course with tuna and watermelon

You will need:

  • tuna – 2 steaks;
  • watermelon;
  • ginger root – 1 cm;
  • lime – 1 pc;
  • sweet onion – 1 pc;
  • sesame seeds – a handful;
  • olive oil;
  • salt – a pinch;
  • stevia – a pinch;
  • dill – 1 sprig;
  • basil – 1 sprig.

Appetizer

Slice the ginger into thin strips. Salt, pour in lime juice and add a little stevia. Quickly marinate. Thinly slice tuna (about 3mm wide), watermelon even thinner (about 1mm wide).

Arrange the ingredients nicely, top with ginger, onion, a couple leaves of basil and dill.

Main course

Coat the tuna in sesame seeds and place on a heated griddle for a minute and a half on each side. It is worth paying attention to the cut of the steak: ideally it should be medium rare, i.e. medium.

Slice the cooked tuna together with the watermelon. Place on a plate, dress with ginger and olive oil, garnish with basil.

Watermelon gazpacho

You will need:

  • cucumber – 1 pc;
  • tomato – 2 pcs;
  • onion – 1/4 pcs;
  • pepper as desired;
  • olive oil – 1 tbsp;
  • watermelon;
  • basil to taste.

Peel and chop the vegetables. To peel tomatoes from the peel, you can lower them into boiling water, having previously made a cross cut. Put everything in a blender, add pepper and olive oil. Cut out the pulp of the watermelon, get rid of the seeds, cut the berry into medium cubes and also send it to the blender. Beat all the ingredients until homogeneous, add salt to taste. When serving, you can decorate with basil.

Smoothie with watermelon and lime

You will need:

  • watermelon;
  • lime juice – 1 tbsp;
  • frozen strawberries – 1 cup;
  • ice – 6-7 cubes;
  • honey – 2 tsp.

Clean the watermelon from the rind and seeds, cut into cubes about 2-2.5 cm thick. Together with the rest of the ingredients thoroughly beat in a blender to a homogeneous mass. Pour into a tall glass – and ready!
