Why is it that sometimes you don’t feel like eating, but at the same time you want to eat?

Together with a nutriciologist, we looked into what this condition can be associated with and whether it is dangerous.

Most often, all situations related to food, when you can’t control your food intake, and on the contrary, food controls you, are related to problems – psychological and mental.

What to do with it?

It is a peculiarity of psychological hunger, connected with the lack of communication, love, understanding and requires satisfaction of the soul’s needs. It is easier for us to satisfy the need of the body and eat something.

It is often associated with the time of infancy, when we were as comfortable as possible surrounded by mom, who provided us with warmth, food and care. In such a situation it is difficult not to feel discomfort, because you literally do not know how to behave and what to do.

Lydia: The most important thing is to find the cause of mental hunger, to understand what you lack, what need you are trying to fill with food: dissatisfaction at work, in relationships or something else. If you can’t do it yourself, it’s best to turn to a specialist – a psychologist or psychotherapist. There are now separate psychologists who deal with eating disorders.

Moreover, you can not just “eat” emotional need, but literally acquire excess weight. Imagine, you’ve been going to the gym for several years and striving for the perfect body. But today you come to the training, and you can not do absolutely nothing, as they say, everything falls out of your hands. You come home and try to compensate for the negative emotions with a big chocolate cake with whipped cream.

Of course, maybe one such meal will not affect your figure, but if it turns into a system, all the years of training will be in vain.

Why does this happen?

The reasons are different, but still most often their roots should be sought in childhood. This is the lack of attention from parents, and harsh criticism of the child or teenager, related to his appearance, figure or eating habits, which can work in adulthood when you meet any trigger, at first glance, trifling – a caustic remark about appearance or a critical phrase in relation to the figure.

In today’s world, the trigger is often the glossy stream that accompanies us on a daily basis. Perfect retouched photos on social networks, commercials and billboards with beautiful girls in bikinis are irritants for an unstable psychological state.

In early childhood, girls played Barbies – long-legged beauties with thin waists. Then they looked at the ideal figures of Disney princesses. And already at a conscious age they were accompanied by glossy magazines and advertising banners on every corner, which necessarily depicted a young, attractive, and most importantly – slim girl.

Is it dangerous?

Now there are a lot of people with eating disorders, such as anorexia, bulimia, overeating, vomiting and others, which are quite difficult to treat.

The disorders listed are the extreme forms, but it starts small. First you just eat when you don’t feel like it, eating your psychological problem, most often with something sweet and savory, rewarding yourself with a source of “cheap dopamine”. Then there is excess weight, which in addition to physiological health problems in the form of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and oncology, even deeper drives you into depression, as it distances you from the ideal, without solving the original underlying psychological causes.

Is it necessary to eat according to the regimen, if at that moment you do not want to eat?

If you have correctly made up your dietary regimen and taken into account all mental and physical activities, balanced your diet in terms of protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber and water, believe me, this will not happen.

There is such an opinion that you should eat at will. If you don’t feel like it, then don’t eat. But you can not recommend this to everyone. There are categories of people with health deviations, who should eat on schedule, so as not to aggravate their condition.

Professional athletes in this regard is easier, because they, most often, have a balanced diet, which will lead them to the goal. A few meals a day, which should not be skipped, is the way to a healthy body and a perfect figure.
