10 questions for a trainer about barre fitness and their answers

We have already told you many times about the magical properties of intensive barre training. But if you still have questions, Yulia Mityaeva, certified barre trainer and head trainer of Barre One studio, is ready to answer them.

How did the barre trend appear? Why has it so rapidly taken over Russia?

Barre was created, of course, by a ballerina. The German dancer Lotte Berk had to leave the stage after a serious injury and invented fitness, which helped her to keep herself in shape and keep her body in precise relief even without daily ballet training. Over time, the method absorbed the principles of Pilates and yoga and became more universal and accessible. The success of the method lies in its effectiveness and aesthetics. It’s the perfect fitness for women – whatever you do, it’s beautiful.

What is the barre method based on?

The method is based on a combination of ballet and strength exercises and a clever mix of muscle loading types. It is the clever combination of sports and ballet that makes the dancers’ muscles so embossed. The combination of different amplitudes of movement and long holding of a certain pose is the secret of success and an unusual load for the body, so barre will surprise even sports gourmets.

Are all barre workouts the same?

The method includes more than 140 specially designed exercises, which are combined in a special way. This makes each workout different from the others. Therefore, you will never get bored with the workout.

The classes use dumbbells 1-2 kg, balls and rubber bands, and most importantly – a machine. This adds even more variety.

How many calories can be burned in one workout?

Full-amplitude movements and a high tempo workout are responsible for cardio mode, so you burn about 400 calories in 55 minutes, we measured.

How often do you need to exercise barre to achieve results?

The effect is cumulative, so regularity of training is important. Even once a week is enough to feel how your body will change – your posture will straighten, you will feel a burst of energy and strength. If you work out more often, for example 3-4 times a week, your body will become taut, your tummy will “go away”, a beautiful waist will be formed, your legs will become embossed, and your muscles will become elongated, like dancers. This is the beauty of the barre method – the figure is feminine, but not overpumped. And you will also notice how you always want to pull the toe, even in any strange situation.

How is barre different from body ballet?

The body ballet method does not exist – it is a collective name for training at the ballet barre, which each coach-dancer adjusts to himself. Therefore, in body ballet there is usually no clear-cut training structure – everything depends on the trainer, his “vision” and knowledge. Often the training is not so intensive and is more like learning choreographic elements and ligaments.

The main difference of the barre method is the guarantee of quality workout of all muscle groups in one session thanks to a clear patented training structure and the use of specific exercises and types of load.

Who can do barre?

Everyone is allowed. No special preparation is needed for training, a competent trainer will choose the load for everyone, offer modification (simplification) or replace the exercise.

And contraindications?

Hunger. I do not recommend intensive training on an empty stomach, the body needs strength.

As for health, this can only be decided by your doctor. What he or she needs to know in order to make a decision:

* training is intense with cardio mode – to take into account for diseases of the vegeto-vascular system.

* in barre there are no jumps and heavy weights, we work with our own weight and light dumbbells 1-2 kg – the load on the joints is minimal.

* choreography is adapted to the high pace of training not to damage the joints.

Before the class, be sure to warn the trainer about contraindications or your feelings today. For example, weakness or lower back pain. He will adjust the load.

What to combine and combine barre training with to make it as effective as possible?

The barre method combines perfectly with stretching, dancing and yoga. Intense barre workouts are excellent for training endurance, balance and grace, stretching allows you to consolidate the result and make the relief more precise, yoga will refine balance and harmony, and in dance you will feel your body ready for the most unusual movements and ligaments.

What kind of clothes should I wear to class?

Any sports uniform is suitable for barre training. A nice bonus – sneakers are not necessary, socks or tap shoes will do. It turns out that everything you need for training fits in your handbag.
