3 crazy things bodybuilders do to get in shape

Bodybuilders need to be in top shape during performances. Sometimes they get so caught up in preparing their bodies that they don’t think about how they will live after the competition or if they will live at all. We’ve collected examples of crazy things bodybuilders do to get in shape.

Steroids

Every person from small years has heard this word, and also heard about the damage these drugs do to the body. But at the same time, they continue to be very popular among bodybuilders.

Steroids are substances that, once in the body, turn into hormones. A large amount of hormones in the body accelerates the growth of muscle mass and fat burning.

The main problem is that steroids are addictive, those who use them regularly have to increase the dose. The first thing that suffers is a person’s biggest filter – the liver. The damage steroids do to the liver could have been revealed by bodybuilder Dean Warmby, had he not passed away from liver cancer in 2015.

Also, those who are addicted to anabolics can start having kidney problems, heart attacks and even strokes. But this is just the price that bodybuilders themselves consciously or unconsciously pay. It is not uncommon for other people to suffer because of them, the overabundance of hormones in the body strongly affects the nervous system. Most often it manifests itself in the form of excessive aggressiveness, which sometimes crosses all possible boundaries.

The example of Sally McNeil and her husband is illustrative, they were both bodybuilders, both took steroids. It is known that in their family there were often conflicts that reached the point of violence, on one such day Sally shot her husband twice with a shotgun. Ray McNeil passed away and his spouse went to jail.

Even wilder is the story of Reuben Arzu, who was driven to the point of anabolics when he attacked a married couple outside their home completely naked. Both spouses survived, though they suffered serious fractures, and the bodybuilder was arrested. And these are just two of the many stories of the so-called steroid rage.

Diuretics

These drugs are used by bodybuilders to flush fluid and salts out of the body. This helps to remove subcutaneous fluid and achieve muscle definition, as well as remove traces of banned drugs from the body.

Diuretics remove sodium from the body, as it is sodium that holds fluid in the body.
Athletes who take diuretics without medical supervision can cause serious damage to their health, up to and including death. The cause can be dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, which leads to a violation of vital processes.

The greatest “success” in the removal of “excess” fluid achieved Andreas Müntzer. Probably, when he was met by an ambulance near the airplane ramp he looked very relief. It is not known how Munich doctors evaluated his musculature, but I want to believe that they paid more attention to his intestinal problems and internal bleeding. During the operation it turned out that due to the lack of fluid in the body the patient’s blood was too thick, the athlete died in the hospital, despite all the efforts of doctors, his heart failed.

Diets: protein and only protein

Bodybuilders before competitions need to maximize the removal of fat from the body, but at the same time preserve muscle mass. Usually athletes put a lot of emphasis on protein and almost completely eliminate carbohydrates. This leads to the fact that the body does not get the substances it needs, metabolism is disturbed. For a person who is under constant physical stress this can be doubly dangerous. To avoid problems, the diet should be worked out individually with the help of a specialist, who will take into account the individual characteristics of the body.

As a rule, bodybuilders’ diets are accompanied by the use of proteins, which can lead to eating disorders. For a weakened body, this carries even more negative consequences. If an athlete consumes too much protein, not only will it not be beneficial, but on the contrary it can be harmful, the liver and kidneys are also affected.

Since athletes lack energy for training while dieting, they consume energy drinks. What bodybuilders drink is somewhat different from what you can buy in a regular grocery store, they contain carbohydrates and caffeine, which also affects the heart and nervous system.
