Motorhome is to meet the dawn in a pine forest, and the next day to rush to the sea. Do not think about where to spend the night and when to book tickets. Work remotely and visit new places. Many people dream of such a trip, but only a few dare.
On the example of motorhomers with experience, who have traveled almost the whole world, we decided to show that everyone can do it.
A traveler who has traveled almost all over Europe and America in a motorhome.
You don’t need to think about the consequences and model what and how it will be. The road is always an adventure, and you will have to cope with it.
Where is the best place to travel in a motorhome?
Let’s start with the fact that traveling in a motorhome is easier than many people think. Those who work remotely will especially appreciate a motorhome. Such a car is quite autonomous, so recharging gadgets will not be difficult. As for the route, in Europe, for example, in spring all the roads are loaded with motorhomes. In Russia, however, this is not the case.
A traveler and motorhomemaker with experience
Most people are sure that traveling by motorhome is very expensive and problematic. In fact, this is not true.
Here are the cons and pros of traveling by motorhome in Russia/America/Europe.
Russia
Oleg: In our country this kind of tourism is absolutely not widespread, because most people are sure that it is very expensive and problematic. In fact, every second car, especially in Moscow, costs about as much as a used motorhome. In Russia, there are many advantages of traveling by motorhome – for example, some moments in our country are not regulated by law, while in Europe there are many restrictions. You can safely spend the night on Tverskaya, in the center of Moscow, and tomorrow leave for the Black Sea or Lake Baikal. On the other hand, we do not have such a well-developed infrastructure of campsites where you can, for example, recharge your batteries.
Europe
Europe, according to Alexei, is something between Russia and America. There are a huge number of campsites there, and yet stopping outside and in nature is quite common. Everyone picks up their garbage, no one drains dirty water. Therefore, there you can comfortably move between campgrounds and stop in nature without any problems.
How to choose the right motorhome?
- Choose a motorhome should first of all based on the number of travelers. If 1-2 people, you can do with an all-metal van, for example, on the basis of Fiat Ducato. If 3-4 people, it is necessary to look alcove motor home, which has two beds: one at the back, the other above the driver’s cabin.
- It is definitely not necessary to buy a super expensive variant at once – it is better to rent it to begin with. Well, if you are absolutely impatient, you can take on the secondary market used with mileage.
- Ideally, you should look for a motorhome abroad. Most motorhomers buy a motorhome in Europe, because we have a poorly formed market in this regard.
- You should not invent a motorhome yourself – it is very costly in terms of money and time. Ready-made solutions are much more practical – as a rule, their production is engaged in auto studio and thinks out everything to the smallest detail, down to furniture fittings, heating system and so on.
- As for America, there are only a few states where you can buy a car for a foreigner – Vermont, Alaska, California and Washington. In other states you cannot buy a car officially as a tourist.
- You must understand where you will put the motor home at the end of the trip. In America and Europe, you can’t just park it on the side of the road and abandon it. There are fines for this.
What to pay attention to before buying a motorhome?
Automotive component
Before buying a motorhome, it is desirable to understand something about cars. Check the brakes, oil, antifreeze, so that the suspension does not knock, the engine runs smoothly, and the exhaust was in place.
The exterior of the motorhome and the cabin itself
The exterior frame of the motorhome is an equally important detail. Old motorhomes are mostly quite rotten, and even if it is not visible from the outside, it will show immediately when it rains, says Alexei. And the main thing to pay attention to is drips and the smell of dampness or mold. If the motor home with clear signs of leaks, covered with sealant, then, probably, it should be abandoned.
The interior of the motorhome (faucets, stove, etc.)
Examine the motorhome from the inside: plumbing, gas, toilets, air conditioning, outlets. In general, check the serviceability of everything you will be using. If, for example, gas is leaking somewhere, it’s not safe. If you have water leaking from somewhere, that’s not safe either. Because when you get to the parking lot, plug in the power, there will be a short circuit. So make sure you check everything.
