Popularity at the cost of life: bloggers launched a coronavirus challenge
Played out. They wanted to hype, and one of them has already been infected.
Every day the number of infected and dead from the new coronavirus is increasing. Most people have realized the real threat of this disease and have decided to self-isolate and minimize all contact with the outside world. However, there are those who are ready to risk their health and their lives for the sake of likes and views on social networks.
What is the challenge with toilets?
In the social network TikTok bloggers launched a new “coronavirus challenge”: in the video they lick toilet seats in public places. The first video of this kind in TikTok was published by blogger Ava Louise (Ava Louise), she licked the rim of the toilet in the airplane. However, later the video was deleted, and the girl specified that she thoroughly sanitized the place of filming.
Laughing at the virus and getting infected
Another blogger – 21-year-old Lars (Larz) from California – decided to support the Challenge. The young American licked the toilet seat in one of the public toilets and at the end of the video laughed at the coronavirus. Five days later in his Instagram account there was a publication in which he told about the positive result of a test for a new virus. According to Lars himself, he went to create a “viral” video for the sake of increasing his popularity and recognizability in the network. Currently, the original video of the blogger is not available, and his TikTok account and Twitter profile are inactive.
Unfortunately, not only young influencers do not recognize the existence of the new virus and its threat, but also members of the media. Thus, Iranian journalist Hamed Jalali Kashani tried to prove that the coronavirus does not exist, licked shrines and refused to wear masks on principle. In Kashani’s opinion, the disease is just a fabrication, and local authorities were deliberately intimidating the population to reduce voter turnout at the parliamentary elections. On February 21, he published a record from the hospital in his “Twitter”: “Well, I got to the hospital with flu. I wish it was a coronavirus or something similar so that I could hype”. The journalist was indeed diagnosed with COVID-19. On the night of February 28, Kashani died of complications from the disease.
At this point, the U.S. has overtaken China to take the top spot in COVID-19 incidence. Worldwide, more than 537,000 people have been infected with the new coronavirus, and the number of deaths has exceeded 24,000.
We recommend that you take care of yourself, stay at home and do not go to public places unnecessarily.
