Sports festivals and extreme competitions: what to expect in 2022?

Mass sport is not going through the best of times. But despite the obvious reasons, celebrations of life, emotions and new impressions still take place. The organizers of major competitions and entertainment events of a sporting nature have to go to great lengths to stay on the calendar and do everything so that we can have a great time.

Naturally, there will be a fair number of events, but many dates have not yet been agreed due to covid restrictions. We have made a small selection of the most interesting sporting events for next year, which we hope will take place no matter what.

What will take place in Russia?

New Star Camp – 2022 – Rosa Khutor, Krasnaya Polyana

When: April 1-10.

A mountain sports and music festival that has already settled in at the Rosa Khutor resort in Krasnaya Polyana. If you are a fan of mountain sports, fun and good music, there is no better place to find in our country in spring.

You will be waited for: the largest snow park in Russia, which has no analogues, numerous competitions, master classes, screenings of movies about sports and lectures from famous athletes. And you will be able to end every day on the mountain at sunset Apres-ski parties.

Ice Cross Down Hill – Igora, Leningrad Region

Don’t look at the fact that the name of the event is in English. This is one of the stages of the World Speed Skating Championships. Never heard of it before? The athletes will be rappelling down an icy obstacle course. They have only skates and full hockey equipment at their disposal.

It is definitely worth visiting this event in the Leningrad Region, as not only Russian athletes, but also representatives of other countries will come to participate.

Fun fact: Dmitry Murlychkin, an athlete from Russia, became the world champion in the 2020/2021 season. In the new season he will defend the title and it will be interesting to watch.

Rosa Run 2022 – Rosa Khutor, Krasnaya Polyana

When: May 1-4.

If you’re the kind of person who plans their vacations and travels in advance for big holidays, here’s an option for you – the international running festival, which will be held for the seventh time on the territory of Rosa Khutor. Already been to the mountains and taken a ride on the ski elevator? During the event, the mountains will open for you in a new way, because you will have to run to the top.

The organizers promise that you won’t be bored, because a lot of activities are planned, in addition to sports.

Red Fox Elbrus Race – 2022, Elbrus, Azau

The mountain, about which there are legends, and about which every person in the world has heard. It is rightfully included in the list of seven peaks as the highest point in Europe, and its name is Elbrus.

The competition is not for the weak in mind and body, as the mountain does not forgive mistakes. You should definitely prepare for this race. Two days and two different formats – vertical kilometer and high-speed ascent. If you want to take part in both, the free days between the races are better devoted to the process of acclimatization and recovery.

Undoubtedly, you will have something else to do in Prielbrusie: to see incredible mountain landscapes, to hear stories about ascents and to taste local khichinas, which will be waiting for you at every step.

White Nights Marathon, St. Petersburg

When: June 18.

This event is definitely iconic and massive. Get a charge of positive emotions, enjoy the atmosphere of the summer city and have a great day will help to participate in the classic marathon, which will be held in the Northern Capital. In addition to the 42.2 km distance, there will be an opportunity to run another, a little less – 10 km.

The routes will run through the historical center of the city. The organizers assure – you will be able to see the Kazan Cathedral, Peter and Paul Fortress, Rostral Columns, Admiralty and St. Isaac’s Cathedral from a new angle. And to start and finish, which is important, you will be on the Palace Square.

Formula 1, Grand Prix of Russia – 2022, Sochi

History is changing before our eyes. One of the loudest, fastest and largest sporting events in Russia will be held in a familiar place for the final time. The Formula 1 Russian Grand Prix in 2023 will move to a new track – Igora Drive in the Leningrad region. The pilots will have the last opportunity to breathe in the fresh sea breeze, as the altitude differences and the new configuration of the Russian round are already waiting for them. As this year’s experience shows, the weather can dramatically change the course of the competition. Climatic conditions can bring surprises.

The Sochi stop of the “Royal Races” is not only the races themselves, but also an inexpressible atmosphere of fan, love for motorsport and numerous activities that will take place these days on the territory of the Olympic Park.

In case you can’t live without sports, the presence of possible restrictions does not scare you and you have a valid visa in your passport, it means one thing – you can try to fly to the other side of the planet and plunge into the atmosphere of not only a celebration of life, but also a distant journey.

X-Games winter 2022 – Aspen, USA

A legendary event from the world of extreme sports. X-Games can be called the Olympics, as the games also have a division into summer (held in Austin, Colorado, USA) and winter (Aspen, Colorado, USA). Going to the Games is considered very prestigious. You will definitely have something to see and something to tell your friends about afterwards.

The closest are the winter ones. Competitions will be held in big air, slopestyle and Pipe.

Super Bowl 2022 – Inglewood, USA

American soccer is a huge part of the culture of our days. Its concept has gone far beyond the sport. You could say it’s an entire industry. The heat of passion can easily compete with the traditional world championship on classical soccer. And the main distinguishing feature of the final match is its halftime show.

For a long time, the show, which is arranged by the organizers, has the highest viewing rating all over the world. How could it be otherwise, if the guest artists raise the bar to the sky? For example, check out The Weeknd’s performance during the last halftime show. They wouldn’t have let him do that at the Grammy Awards.

This time, however, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J Blige and Kendrick Lamar will be on stage. It’s definitely worth seeing live.

Athletes from all over the world strive to get there to show the world their tricks and raise the bar in each discipline even higher. But the main thing is the atmosphere of extreme sports, the extraordinary support of each other during the competition and the feeling of real freedom.
