“Champion.”

According to the majority of movie critics, the main sport in the world is considered not soccer or hockey, but boxing. Yes, it is the movies about it that attract special attention of directors and get coveted statuettes. The first sports movie to be nominated for an Oscar was the American “Champion”. Mark Robson’s black-and-white drama won two awards in 1932: for Best Actor and Screenplay.

“The Invisible Side.”

“The Invisible Side” is a sports drama by John Lee Hancock, released in 2009. The screenplay is based on Michael Lewis’ 2006 book “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game”. The movie tells the story of the life of American soccer player of the Baltimore Ravens team Michael Oare. The picture collected at the box office more than three hundred million dollars and gave actress Sandra Bullock “Oscar” for Best Actress.

“Heaven Can Wait”

American feature film directed by Warren Beatty was based on Harry Segall’s “Here Comes Mr. Jordan”. The character Joe Pendleton, quarterback of the Los Angeles Rams, is ready to lead his team to the Super Bowl, but instead accidentally goes to heaven. To correct the unfortunate misunderstanding, the hero must be moved into a new body, such as that of a recently murdered millionaire. In 1979, the film was listed in eight nominations and was awarded the Oscar for Best Picture for artist Edwin O’Donovan.

“The Fighter”.

David O. Russell’s work is based on the true story of boxing brothers: current and former. They overcame deep personal dramas by rallying around the goal of winning a world title. Christian Bale lost 28 pounds to 66 for the role of his half-brother. His movie partner Mark Wahlberg publicly expressed concern about Bale’s health. And yet the game was worth the candle. “The Fighter” won two gold statuettes: for the best female and male supporting roles.
