What is sapsurfing?

People have invented a variant of surfing for those who love to contemplate nature and twist their heads around.

At seaside resorts, you can often see beach gondoliers, almost like in Venice: they stand on a surfboard and row with oars. The sport is called SUP surfing. To diversify your sealing vacation at sea, we suggest you to get acquainted with this activity.

What is SUP?

SUP surfing (or Stand Up Paddle) literally translates as “standing with a paddle”. The name already reveals the essence of this activity. You will need a surfboard, a paddle and a person who wants to spend time actively and usefully.

This sport is quite simple. It is suitable even for beginners and those who do not like active vacations. For this, it is not even particularly important to know how to swim. The main thing is to learn to find balance while standing on the board with both feet. And if standing up paddling is hard for you, you can continue learning SUP while sitting on the board.

It’s also important to choose the right board when learning to SUP. The wider it is, the more stable it will be on the water, but also slower. Larger boards can accommodate several people. Narrow boards are more maneuverable and difficult to master, and it’s harder to find balance on them.

As for the shape of the SUP, there are options for every taste: from rounded to rectangular. The boards can also be distinguished by the presence of fins, most often from one to three. In the front part of the SUP can be noticed silicone mat, which allows you not to slip and do not fall when the water hits the board.

In addition, also buy a paddle, a pump for inflation and a case for transportation of all equipment.

How to choose a board?

First of all, you should look at your parameters: height, weight, as well as riding conditions and your SUP skills.

It is recommended to start with a 335 cm board with a width of 76 cm, and then move on to narrower and more maneuverable models.

What are the benefits of SUP?

Thanks to SUP surfing, first of all, stabilization muscles get toned. The muscles of the legs also get a good workout, and the shoulder girdle and arms get a good workout because of the paddle.

In addition, it is also a great cardio exercise, which is much more interesting than a treadmill in the gym.
