“Today Moscow Race OCR & Run obstacle course race took place in Moscow for the fourth time. Early morning, frost, a race – the atmosphere is not for everyone, but with each competition there are more and more people willing to participate. People of all ages take part. I managed to meet the participants and find out what motivated them to pass the “test of strength”.

According to the organizers, Moscow Race is a clean path. They consider the absence of mud on the stages of the competition as their advantage. And that’s if you don’t count the all-time favorite buckwheat with stew, which is offered to all participants of the race.

Answering the question why this particular dish was chosen, the organizers said the following: “Field cuisine is considered the most delicious and expensive. In winter everyone wants meat!” They fed everyone and shared it with me. The main thing in the kitchen is to make friends with the chef.

Food is great, of course, but what about the prizes? Winners of the race are given cups, medals, sports nutrition, and children also coloring books. “The most responsible and challenging participants are the kids. There’s always a reserve prize pack for those who didn’t get a place of honor or went off the trail. Because there is no other way,” shared the main organizer of the Moscow Race.

How to prepare for the marathon for a beginner, told here.

The biggest surprise for me was the huge number of children, full of fighting spirit, with mad enthusiasm in their eyes! One of the participants in a cute pink jumpsuit was not even three years old, but she had a stern look.

The athlete herself refrained from commenting, but her mom claimed they were determined to complete the trail from start to finish. This despite the fact that it’s -10 outside.

Are you afraid of the cold? – We are afraid, but the main thing is participation.

Another wonderful girl Polina immediately told me that she came today for gold. Her mom and coach came to support her, with whom she spent the whole morning warming up. She was preparing seriously: “I found and worked on all my shortcomings in training!”

The adults were also keeping up with the kids in their spirit. But I had more questions for them. Do they really have the strength to come to the race on Sunday morning after a hard work week? What made them get up so early and go to the competition in such a cold? Here is what Marina, a participant of the 10 km cross-country race, answered:

A great love for running and a little craziness.

The men also made themselves known. One of the participants, Sergei, came to participate in the obstacle race in the company of his wife and a hedgehog. Seriously: the athlete had a toy hedgehog in his chest pocket.

“Sergei the hedgehog!” – as he put it himself. This toy is his mascot and, except for jokes, helps him win in competitions. He and his wife traveled halfway across the country, participating in various marathons. The athlete has won more than 30 medals.

Sergey shared that he started practicing sports at the age of 45 and has been successfully participating in races for two years. I wondered what drove him to it. “I decided that it’s enough to lead an immoral lifestyle – it’s time to lead a moral one,” Sergey answered.

Having got acquainted with the participants and organizers of the race, I can say that such sporting events harden the spirit, charge and motivate to do sports.

This time I was only an observer and I was united with the participants only by buckwheat and stew, but next time I will definitely take part in the race!
