In pursuit of eternal youth. What is face fitness?

In the pursuit of eternal youth and beauty, people try all means to which they have access: tightening masks, anti-aging pills and elixirs, beauty injections, plastic surgeries. But there is another equally popular way – face fitness. No one promises instant results, but if you perform gymnastics regularly and for at least a month, you can give your skin a rested look.

Face fitness is a set of exercises to tighten the muscles and skin of the facial oval, improve blood microcirculation, remove excess fluid and accelerate tissue regeneration.

According to legend, in the early twentieth century at one of the theater performances plastic surgeon Reinhold Benz was struck by the contrast between the tightened body and aged face of a famous ballerina. This motivated him to create the first set of facial gymnastics exercises. Today, followers add to his base with their own innovative ideas and sell books on facial gymnastics with many thousands of copies.

Why does our skin start to age?

According to cosmetologists, the first signs of aging can appear by the age of 25, and the further, alas, the worse: creases on the forehead, bridge of the nose and around the mouth, “hound’s feet”, second chin – and all because the facial muscles lose elasticity and firmness before other muscles of the body. Therefore, superficial care in the form of creams is not enough, you need to train the face.

Popular techniques

To date, the most popular are two methods – Carol Maggio and Benita Cantieni. The first is based on the fact that the muscles of the face should be pumped, increasing their volume (it will support the skin), but it is important not to overdo it, otherwise there is a great risk of breaking the harmonious structure of the face. Kantieni teaches to first put in order the posture, and only then to take up the face, and not to pump the muscles, but to work them in detail with massage.

Exemption from training

There are several contraindications to practicing face fitness:

  • skin diseases;
  • acute diseases of the facial nerves;
  • neuropathy;
  • viral and acute ENT diseases;
  • cerebral circulation disorders;
  • 3rd degree hypertension.

The rest of us can start exercising regardless of age and facial muscle condition.

Face fitness is also a kind of sport, so the rules are the same as for regular fitness: the exercises will not work if you have a sedentary lifestyle, poor diet, bad habits, bad posture and constant facial tension, for example, you should stop frowning your eyebrows and grimace less often.
