What happens to your body if you do 50 burpees a day?

Burpees have already managed to be loved and hated. More and more often you can see this exercise in the Instagrams of fit niñas and famous athletes. It doesn’t require any additional weights or equipment – just you and your body. Fall down – jump up. Doesn’t sound very difficult. So can just 50 burpees a day make your body change for the better?

First we need to understand what we’re dealing with.

What is the burpee?

This exercise was invented back in the 1930s by American scientists as a test for the physical development of military personnel. Now it is included in training programs for those who are obliged to have a high physical efficiency: firefighters, special units, professional athletes. And all because it is a functional exercise that involves all muscle groups: arms, chest, quadriceps, gluteal muscles, biceps, thighs and abs.

Let’s understand what a burpee consists of. It is worth saying that it can have many variations, and you can choose the one you like best. But the classic exercise looks like this:

  • Stand straight, feet shoulder width apart;
  • deep squat until you can put your palms on the floor;
  • transfer your body weight to your hands and jump into a sit-up;
  • push-up;
  • return to squat through a jump;
  • jump up with a clap above your head.

Advantages

The exercise develops not only endurance, but also strength and coordination. In addition, since you do not need any additional equipment to perform it, you can do it anywhere. Another undeniable plus of burpees is the acceleration of metabolism, that is, calories will be burned even after training.

How to perform it correctly?

It is absolutely necessary to start with warming up. A 5-minute warm-up for your joints will definitely not hurt.
Your task is to do the maximum number of exercises in the allotted time, which is determined by your physical fitness. For example, it could be 30 seconds of intense exercise with 10 seconds of rest or 3 minutes with a one-minute break. It is up to you to decide.

What are the variations?

The simplest variant – without jumping jacks and push-ups, you can start with it. Complicated variants assume a change of direction in a jump, jumping on a platform, kicking or weighting with dumbbells. We are limited only by our imagination.

50 burpees a day – is it real?

Yes! And journalist Anna Quinlan from Popsugar.fitness did it. For 30 days, the girl performed 50 burpees a day, inspired by a challenge on Instagram. Now she proudly declares that it wasn’t that easy and shares the results.

“Burpees are probably the most efficient exercise on Earth. I’ve completed two marathons and several triathlons, and I teach Megaformer workshops twice a week. Before this challenge, however, burpees were part of my high-intensity training. Training with only this exercise emphasized how it stressed every muscle I had. My body ached the entire first week. I sweated intensely every time, even on day 30. Now when I travel somewhere without much access to a gym, I will definitely choose burpees. Lots of burpees.”

In the 20 days of the challenge, Anna’s body has already changed: “I did push-ups during every burpee. And combined with the other elements of the exercise, it was very hard. During the first week my arms were very tense. The pain continued into the second week. That said, when I saw my photo on the 20th day of the challenge, I felt like the photographer had someone else’s muscular arms on my body. So if you dream of that effect, at least start with push-ups.”

What else will change?
