What to do with clothing and sports equipment when the cold season is over

How to properly store winter equipment, so as not to spoil?

Let’s find out together with professionals.

Spring is near. And if you realize that this winter you are not planning to conquer snowy peaks anymore, it’s time to postpone your outfit until the next season.

How to store warm clothes?

First, you need to review your closet and assess its condition. If your clothes have been through all sorts of trials and travels over the winter and are frayed, it makes sense to take them to the dry cleaner. Or wash it at home and put it in order by yourself, if necessary.

Secondly, you need to sort all your clothes by type. Different types have their own requirements and restrictions on how they can be stored. Upper equipment (jackets, down jackets) is better to hang on hangers in the closet (in addition, you can use covers). Sweaters and sweaters in this form can deform, so it is better to fold them and put them on the shelves. Shoes should be washed, cleaned, dried and treated with special care compositions.

Thirdly, stock up on vacuum bags, plastic boxes and ordinary bags for storing bulky things. This will help to organize the space so that things take up little space, rather than being evenly distributed throughout the apartment. And to make it easier to find specific items, everything can be signed or labeled with special tags.

5th Russian Snowkiting Champion, 4th Wissa World Champion

In general, there are no special fiddles.

After you have ridden the kite, it is better to put it down at home, so that snow and ice drain from it and everything dries well. Then you need to pack it in a case and store it that way. Nothing will happen to it at room temperature.

The only limitation: you should not keep it in a super hot or cold room. The fact is that some parts are fastened with glue, so critical temperatures can badly affect it.

How to store skates?

Dmitry Murlychkin

world speed skating champion

Fortunately, I don’t have to put my skates away for a long time, as I skate on them all year round.

For me at least, it’s a pretty interesting question. But here are older comrades always said that you should first wipe the skates from dirt and dust. Dry well, for which you can use a special dryer for shoes. Then be sure to put covers on the blades and put them away in the closet.

All repairs and sharpening is better to make already before the beginning of the next season.

How to store snowboards, alpine and cross-country skis?

Pavel Potapov

service man, specialist in the preparation and running-in of skis and snowboards

You should store your equipment at room temperature.

As soon as you realize that you won’t be using your skis or snowboards again until next year, they should be tidied up and “mothballed”.

Important: after each skiing you need to wipe the equipment from snow and water and leave it in the apartment. When the equipment “warms up” to room temperature, wipe it and put it in a case. Of course, also dry. So skis or snowboards will remain in good condition for many years.

Once completely dry – wipe with a solution of 95% ethanol to degrease the surface and get rid of germs and bacteria. Then the only thing left to do is to fold it up, put it away in a box and put it in a closet or pantry.

An ice-skate is easier – just wipe it with a solution of 95% ethanol and hang it up to dry, for example, on the balcony.
