Beyond workouts: the top modern trends in sports style

Back in the 1980s, sportswear gained a strong foothold in pop culture. People started wearing sneakers, loose t-shirts and sweatshirts not only during workouts, but also in everyday life. And musicians, actors, athletes and other public figures made these items a stylish feature of a bygone era.

Currently, sportswear is bursting into the trends with a new force. It is favored by showbiz stars, and designers and luxury brands fruitfully cooperate with outfitters to present joint collections. We tell you what trends are particularly relevant now.

Joggers as an everyday look

While the world was in a self-isolation mode, many of us began to dress in such a way that first of all it was comfortable, and then (if desired) beautiful.

Joggers are ideal in terms of comfort, because they were originally created for jogging. Such pants do not constrict movements, securely held on the ties and look very minimalistic – an ideal option for home, walks in cool weather and long trips. Unsurprisingly, joggers are increasingly being seen on non-runners.

Massive sneakers from luxury brands

If before sports shoes were created exclusively by outfitter brands, now the situation has changed. Stylish sneakers and sneakers can be found under the aegis of Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga.

The trend of recent seasons can safely be called a massive sole. More and more often fashion houses present shoes of impressive size. But this does not mean that you can wear it only with a tracksuit or a blowing jacket. As you can see, combining large sneakers with a skirt is not a problem.

80s tracksuits at social events

If you step on the red carpet in so-called tracksuits and Olympics, you probably won’t surprise anyone. Celebrities have started to wear suits even at social events.

Singer Rihanna, for example, has long been partial to sports style. In her closet there are both suits of luxury brands, and those that she released in collaboration with Puma. The artist is not shy to experiment and try on bright accessories and heeled shoes, make unusual hairstyles and makeup.

Collaborations of famous designers and sports brands

Not only champions and artists cooperate with sports brands. Things released together with famous fashion designers have long conquered the hearts of customers. For example, adidas actively cooperates with Jeremy Scott, and Nike – with the design head of Off-White and Louis Vuitton Virgil Abloh.

In 2017, Virgil signed a contract with the brand and promised to redesign ten iconic models. These included the legendary Air Jordan 1, Hyperdunk and Air Max 97, as well as the Zoom VaporFly running giants.

Cycling shorts from the 90’s and crop tops are back in fashion again

Bike shorts were the talk of the town three years ago. Back then, the main adherents were the Kardashian-Jenner girls, who wore the tight-fitting shorts with everything from sweatshirts to strict jackets. Why did we say “again”? Because Princess Diana herself introduced this outfit into her everyday style. By the way, model Hailey Bibber just repeats her image in the photo for Paris Vogue.

Cropped tops, in which girls used to appear at trainings, also went beyond sports. Now, cropped tops or T-shirts are worn under denim jackets, shirts and even fur coats – why not?

Celebrities and doctors choose crocs

Crocs, which Ariana Grande is wearing, first appeared in 2002. Their creators – three friends from Colorado – decided to work together to develop a new shoe for yachting and sailing that wouldn’t slip on wet floors. However, the first 200 pairs of rubber shoes made a sensation and were sold out in a few hours.

Now crocs are worn around the city, walking in nature, but they have become especially popular among medical workers. Doctors and nurses wear them in hospitals as a change of shoes.

Belt bags are not only about sports

Belt bags and “bananas” used to be associated exclusively with sports. In them you could put all the essentials and go for a jog or a bike ride. Now their variety is so great that we meet fabric, leather and even transparent bags made of plastic. And the trend for a practical accessory was joined by fashion houses, including Valentino and Dolce&Gabbana.

It seems that in today’s world, sports and the fashion industry really do go hand in hand. But whatever the new collections of brands, we know for sure that such clothes have won the love of customers primarily due to their convenience and functionality.
