In Russia and many European countries, bread is always on the table. There are many sayings about it. “Bread is the head of everything” is just one of many. It helps to feel satiety faster, and carbohydrates give strength and energy for physical work. In Asia, rice is used for the same purpose.
Today, more and more health-conscious people are reducing the amount of carbohydrates in their diet. Some are giving them up altogether. Is it worth it? And which is healthier – rice or bread?

Both rice and bread are a coin with two sides.
Which is healthier?
On the one hand, rice has more nutrients and macronutrients, but on the other hand, bread contains fewer carbohydrates. In any case, choose whole grain baked goods – they will not allow you to gain extra weight and will not raise blood cholesterol.
If you have blood sugar problems, whole grain products will be the safest for your health.
What has more vitamins and minerals?
When it comes to vitamins, neither rice nor bread is rich in them. If you compare them in terms of the content of phtholate – a form of vitamin B9 – in rice, they are almost twice as much, so you should give preference to it.
Per 100 g of the product is:
- 2.7 g of fiber in white bread;
- whole-grain bread – 7 g;
- white rice – 0.4g;
- 1.8 g in brown rice.
Where are more calories?
Let’s not forget about the substances necessary for the body, called macronutrients. These are the well-known proteins, fats and carbohydrates. It is from them that we get energy and “building material” for cell renewal.
