Does a weight loss belt really help?

There is an opinion that it increases sweating, and consequently – drowns fat.

After watching videos on social networks about the wow-effect of this or that equipment, some people rush to buy the same and do not think about whether this miracle product really works. The slimming belt is one of them. Today, its advertisement can be seen not only in the store on the couch, but also by some fitness bloggers. In the hope that it will magically help to get rid of extra pounds, without any effort, many and buy such belts. Together with fitness trainer Andrei Semeshov, we analyze whether the weight loss belt actually works.

Is there a point in a slimming belt?

According to the trainer, the meaning of such a belt should be sought outside of physiology, namely in marketing. Whether a person will see the cherished result depends on the actions he takes to lose weight. However, the so-called weight loss belt cannot influence this process.

This equipment has nothing that can provoke additional energy expenditure. It is simply a thing that a person puts on top. The effect is about the same as that of wrapping oneself in foil for a workout – nothing but heat stroke, warns the trainer.

Yes, the belt can increase sweating in a certain area, but it is very indirectly related to weight loss. If you can “push it off” after exercise, it doesn’t mean you’re “drowning” fatty tissues. In fact, you’re just losing water: moisture evaporates and blood becomes thicker. And there’s no fat burning. It’s similar to losing weight in a bathhouse. There you do not lose weight, but lose moisture.

Moreover, if you use not just a belt, but, for example, a tightening corset – the story is even more dubious. Of course, if you tighten, the waist will become smaller. But if you exercise in a corset all the time, some muscles can be turned off from the process. They get used to work during the load period, and if later you decide to perform an exercise without a belt, it can lead to injury.

It is worth remembering that there are no miracle fat burners that are safe for health. Often, what is advertised under such a brand only raises body temperature and due to energy and caffeine makes us move more and gives us the opportunity to train not 45 minutes, but 50.

Are there any limitations to wearing the belt?

The limitations are common sense and the thickness of your wallet. It may well be that the purchase of such a belt will give a powerful motivational push to active exercise and proper nutrition.

However, the trainer draws attention to the fact that if the belt is worn incorrectly during exercise, it can interfere with the blood supply.
