“Nothing to wear is a problem faced not only by women, but also by men. A person has a whole closet of things, but on the street he again goes out in jeans and his favorite T-shirt (sweatshirt, sweater). There is good news – even basic clothes can be diversified with the help of certain stylistic techniques.
Trick #1. Layering
Not everyone knows how to use this technique. And for nothing. It is not so complicated, but it allows you to create a complete and interesting image.
There is a category of men who avoid such solutions, thinking that layering makes them look fat. In fact, it’s the opposite – it slims.
Adding to the jeans not only a T-shirt, but also a shirt or/and vest, you create a vertical line in the center of the body. It is formed by the unbuttoned halves of the shirt (vest, jacket, etc.).
Layering visually elongates the figure. The image looks fresh and up-to-date.

Combination options:
- “three-piece” suit with a vest (over it can be a coat – like David’s);
- a shirt peeking out from under a sweatshirt/sweater;
- a turtleneck worn under a shirt;
- polo over a turtleneck;
- an unbuttoned coat over a jacket worn over a turtleneck.
At first glance, these combinations seem very unusual. However, they make the image interesting, create it.
Method No. 2. Monochrome
Here is even simpler. You create an image in the same shades. It is not necessarily a suit of the same color. It’s not that boring! Yes, it really is based on one color. For example, brown. But then we use different shades of it. But we do it properly. What points in the combination of shades of one color should be taken into account?
Uh, color guidelines:
- if the hoodie is bright, the pants should be in a muted shade;
- if the pants are dark, the sweater (hoodie) should be lighter;
- shoes and accessories can be tonal or achromatic (black, white, gray).

Trick #3. Play with proportions
How to add a look of current carelessness? Play with the length of products. Shirt sleeves can be rolled up. If it is a sweater, hoodie – pull up. So the image will immediately become more interesting.
You can also twist pants or jeans. Of course, not all models allow you to do this. Such an experiment works best on chinos.
It is enough literally one tuck along the width of the edge. Some designers make the stitching more contrasting, which looks very even winning.

Trick #4. Play of contrasts
In this technique you use different textures in one image.
An example of David’s look:
- soft jersey turtleneck;
- cotton jacket and pants;
- suede shoes;
- leather suitcase.

You can play not only with textures, but also with colorism. This method assumes that in one image we use different contrasting colors.
Examples of combinations:
- green suit and yellow shoes;
- blue jeans and a red sweater;
- white pants and a dark/bright top.
You can also use light-colored shoes as a bright accent. White sneakers are a great gimmick. They always catch the eye. They can’t be overlooked. The shades can range from white to beige. Try to take the color of butter. It is very relevant this season.

Tip #5. Interaction with accessories
Even the simplest image can be transformed by interesting details. What accessories are worth considering?
Detail options:
- accent (colored or printed/scripted) baseball cap or beanie hat;
- brightly colored socks (if the dress code allows);
- stylish watch;
- bag and backpack;
- current sunglasses;
- tie and tie clip;
- bowtie and suspenders;
- jewelry (bracelets, rings, neck chains, etc.).
The main thing is to avoid going overboard. The simpler the things that make up the image, the more accent accessories you can afford.
