5 mini-series about sports, motivation and experience

Great stories about chess, boxing, swimming, soccer and figure skating.

During vacations we often do not know what to occupy ourselves with. A useful and pleasant pastime can be watching sports series. We made a selection of the best motivational mini-series for the last decade.

“The Queen’s Walk” (2020).

The series tells about Beth Harmon, who dreams of devoting her life to chess and becoming a world sportswoman. However, she is hindered by alcohol and drug addiction. Will the heroine cope with her problem and fulfill her dream?

In 2021, the series won in the category “Best Mini-Series” at the primetime Emmy Awards.

“Ted Lasso” (2020).

This series also won an Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series. Ted Lasso is the coach of the Kansas college American soccer team. The new owner hires Ted as head coach in hopes that he will break up the club.

However, he approaches the job with all the enthusiasm and optimism. A distinctive feature of Ted as a coach – he cares more not about the results of the team, but about the people themselves.

“Lights Out” (2011)

The plot of the series is based on the life of champion heavyweight Patrick Leary. After the end of his sports career, he is trying to find an occupation in ordinary life. Boxing gave the athlete a good financial support, but he was hit by a “black streak”.

Not knowing how to provide for himself and his family, Patrick thinks about returning to professional sports, but because of many missed punches, the athlete begins to develop boxing dementia.

“Barracuda” (2016).

16-year-old Danny Kelly dreams of an Olympic gold medal. Entering an elite school, he begins to take the first steps towards his goal. At first, he cannot find a place for himself among teenagers from the “other” strata of society.

With the support of a coach and a friend, Danny settles into the team and prepares to become a Barracuda, Australia’s youngest swimming champion. But what do you do when the only thing that matters in your environment is winning?

“Clinging to the Ice” (2020).

Kat was a professional figure skater before she was injured. The athlete realizes that her career may be over, but she gets a chance to show her strength in pairs figure skating. Kat gets a partner not from easy – a real bad guy with a bushy lifestyle.

The series describes in great detail the changes in both athletes and the difficulties they go through.
