At risk. What activities may be canceled due to coronavirus

The coronavirus epidemic that broke out in December 2019 continues to spread. At the same time as the number of people falling ill grows, precautions are also being tightened. At one point, they affected sports, a field that has to shrink its options in favor of safety. We tell you whether you should be seriously afraid of the new virus and how exactly it affects the sports world.

What is coronavirus and should we be afraid of it?

The disease was first talked about on such a large scale in December 2019. Then in the Chinese city of Wuhan in the province of Hubei, a pneumonia outbreak caused by a new coronavirus began. Subsequently, it was officially named COVID-19, and the epidemic spread to other countries.

To date, more than 95,000 people have been infected with the coronavirus, and more than 53,000 of them have already recovered. Although there are about 3.3 thousand deaths, there is no need to panic. Firstly, in the absolute majority of cases, the dead had concomitant serious diseases. Secondly, people of advanced age and with weakened immunity bear the disease especially hard. After all, six cases of infection have been recorded in Russia, and, as doctors say, patients are isolated and their condition is carefully monitored.

This supports the view that you should always listen to your own health and seek help from a doctor if you are concerned about alarming symptoms. Among them are high fever, cough, difficulty breathing and runny nose. Of course, even in the aggregate, they do not say that you definitely have a coronavirus. But it is necessary to treat competently even from a cold.

You can protect yourself from infection with the help of prevention. Doctors recommend:

  • Keep your hands clean. Regularly wash them with soap and carry antiseptic.
  • Avoid touching your mouth, nose, and eyes with dirty hands.
  • Keep surfaces and devices you interact with frequentlyclean.
  • Carry disposable tissues with you. Cover your nose and mouth with them when you sneeze or cough, and throw them away afterward.
  • Always ventilate the room.
  • Be careful in crowded places. Avoid touching foreign surfaces and objects, and keep your hands away from your face.
  • Share prevention information with others.
