Breeze into summer: 5 ways to skateboard

Of course, skateboarding tricks look impressive and sometimes even dangerous. But skateboarding is not always such an extreme sport as it is usually described. Almost everyone can master skateboarding, at least it’s worth a try. We tell you what types of boards exist, so that you will definitely find one to your liking.

“You’re in the dance.”

Did you know that you can dance on a skateboard? Dancing is quite a popular trend in modern skateboarding, which combines skating and step tracks on the board. It looks quite spectacular.

Dancing tracks are most convenient to perform on a board, the length of which is 44 inches (about 111 cm) and above. The length of the board, as in the case, for example, with skis, should be chosen according to your height. If you are taller than 180 cm, a board with a length of 46-50 inches (116-127 cm) will be suitable for skiing, if you are shorter – 44 inches will be enough.

Freestyle

This style of longboarding involves performing tricks. We can distinguish several variants of riding. The first is the execution of classic skateboarding techniques, such as ollies and flips, on boards 35-40 inches (88-102 cm) long.

The second option is classic freestyle skateboarding on boards up to 44 inches (approximately 111 cm) long. In such riding perform tricks, think out the transitions between them, add elements of dansing. And, finally, the third option – freestyle on a board for dansing. The difference from the first two – only in the length of the board and the complexity of learning tricks: freestyle on a long board looks more spectacular, but also requires more time to learn.

Lonboarding for the brave

“Spread out and jump off the cliff,” sings the famous song by King and Shute. Downhill, perhaps the most extreme type of longboarding, is designed to do just that. The rider descends the slope at breakneck speed, usually equipped only with a protective helmet and stiff gloves to brake for turns.

Option for the city

If you live in a metropolis, and the goal of conquering steep slopes is not worth it, look at skateboards for cruising. Small in size and equipped with gel wheels, cruising boards will become an indispensable way of transportation in the city.

However, with the advantages of maneuverability and absorption of vibrations from asphalt and tiles, cruising longboards have a disadvantage – low stability. The first time you stand on the board, you will not immediately feel confident.

Eternal classics

If none of the above options did not appeal to you, but you still want to stand on the board, we advise you to look at the traditional skateboard. In large cities you can easily find specially equipped sites, and YouTube has a lot of training videos with tricks.

The fact that skateboarding has been an Olympic sport since 2016 may also serve as an additional motivator. We will see the fight for the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the very near future.
