“Equipment for 20 thousand rubles”. How much does it cost to give a child to fencing?

One of the most popular sections for children today is fencing. No wonder, because this is where you can feel like a real superhero from the animated series “Lady Bug and Super Cat” or understand what techniques Wansday uses in his famous fight.

In sport fencing there are three types of weapons: saber, rapier and epee. The principal differences are the shape of the blade and the rules of judging.

We talked to the mom of a young athlete whose hobby has grown into a hobby for the whole family.

“Roma has been practicing fencing since he was eight years old. He saw a report about it and wanted to try it. It was difficult to combine the tight schedule and training regimen at the state sports school with his studies, so we found a private club. After a while I created my own school, where I try to provide everything for the comfort of parents and young athletes.

Equipment

We train with the epee, so I will tell you about the epee players’ uniforms. For training and participation in children’s competitions, it is enough to have an outfit that is made of material that has a 350N puncture resistance certificate (fabric resistance of 350 Newtons). The cost of a full kit and weapons (jacket, breeches, kit, plastic protection, glove on the armed hand, gaiters, mask, cord, electric sword) will cost about 20 thousand rubles. It is enough (depending on the growth rate of the child) for one or two seasons.

The blade of the sword has a limited number of bends and breaks quite often. Depending on the intensity of training, it has to be replaced every two or three months. The price of the blade and repair of the sword will be 2.5 thousand rubles.

You also need a sports suit (T-shirt, shorts) and sneakers with a reinforced surface. The most popular model of shoes costs 21 thousand rubles. But you can buy another one, designed for big tennis (from 5 thousand rubles), and save significantly.

As a rule, the club provides a uniform for the first lessons, but it is recommended to buy a personal one for tournaments.

Rapier and saber lessons assume a suit with an electric jacket (different for each type), a special mask and a cord to it.

Training and competitions

In Moscow, fencing can be practiced in state sports schools for free. In private clubs, the cost of one group training session will be approximately one thousand rubles. The number of classes per week varies from one to five, depending on the goals.

Pupils of private clubs and sports schools on the same conditions can apply for city and all-Russian competitions and fulfill sports categories. My son participates in children’s tournaments. As a rule, it costs 750-1500 rubles per tournament. The regularity of tournaments is once or twice a month. Roma is engaged in fencing for personal development, so there is no goal to participate in a large number of tournaments.
