Glazed cheesecakes are dangerous not only for the figure. How can they ruin your health?

Are cottage cheese curds useful? Is it possible to eat them on a diet?

Let’s find out together with a nutritionist.

Cheese curd is a favorite treat for many people, straight from childhood. Presented on the showcases of the choice is so diverse that everyone can find something to taste. But what about those who are trying to watch their figure? Can cheese be called a healthy snack?

How do cheesecakes differ from ordinary cottage cheese?

Lydia Kvashnina

nutritionist

We appreciate cottage cheese in the diet for the calcium that is in its composition. But the presence of a large amount of sugar in cottage cheese destroys this benefit, when absorbed in the intestine, calcium loses to carbohydrates.

Often manufacturers put in cheesecakes fats of vegetable origin, about the quality of which we know nothing. But more often it is refined deodorized vegetable oils, which are not necessary for the body.

In addition, in order to increase shelf life, manufacturers add preservatives to cheese, which is not the case with natural cottage cheese.

There are also questions about the chocolate coating. Only a few manufacturers use real chocolate for coating, more often it is a glaze of rather low quality. But even when chocolate is used, milk chocolate is preferred, where there is a lot of sugar and little healthy cocoa butter.

Can cheese be considered a healthy snack?

Lydia: I would not recommend using cottage cheese as a snack, even of good quality with a short shelf life. Because it still contains sugar, and eating it on an empty stomach, you will get a release of insulin in the blood. If you often abuse such sweets, you can get type II diabetes.

“Harmless” cheesecakes can be only if you prepare them yourself. For example, you can add nuts, berries and bitter chocolate to cottage cheese.

How can cottage cheese be dangerous?

In addition to all of the above, cottage cheese can also be dangerous as a product of poor quality. In desserts, you can find a lot of components harmful to the body. A study on this topic was conducted by experts from the TV channel “Russia-1” doctor Sergei Agapkin and nutritionist Mikhail Ginzburg.
