5 extreme records

Jumping without a parachute from a height of 7.6 km or conquering a 30-meter wave – these achievements could have ended sadly, but the record holders were lucky.

Over the years, the most desperate daredevils from around the world have held their breath, jumped without a parachute, conquered waves and mountains. In a selection of five extreme sporting achievements, we recall the stunts that still amaze and delight. These stories are further proof that nothing is impossible.

Jamie Pierre

Jamie Pierre set a world record for ski jumping from a height. To do this, he climbed a cliff of 78 meters in the state of Wyoming, USA. In flight, he flipped head down, while he was not wearing a helmet. He fell into deep snow, so he got off quite easily – just a busted lip.

Gara Magdamara

Legendary Hawaiian surfer Gara Magdamara set a record by conquering the biggest wave. Off the coast of the Portuguese village of Nazari, he “saddled” a wave the size of a ten-story house. Its height reached 30.5 meters. It was formed in an underwater canyon – because of him this area is famous for the highest waves.

Dana Kunze

Highdiving is diving from an extremely high height. The sport is quite dangerous, and often records end in serious injury.

One such jump in 1983 was made by Dana Kunze from the USA, a professional athlete and US diving champion. The height of the tower was 52.5 meters. The athlete performed a triple spin and climbed out of the water on his own.

Lasso Challe

Cliffdiver Lasso Challe managed to “jump” Kunze. In 2015, he jumped into the water in the Swiss Alps from a 58.8-meter-high cliff. This is close to the height of a 19-story house and exceeds the height of the Leaning Tower of Pisa (56.7 meters). However, Challet was unable to climb out of the water on his own, breaking the basic rule of high-diving. Therefore, his jump was not counted as a new record.

Luke Aikins

Luke Aikins jumped without a parachute from a height of 7.6 kilometers. In order for the athlete to survive such a risky act, a special net was stretched below, on which he landed. After him, the reckless stunt could not be repeated. After all, not everyone will be lucky to fall from such a height and survive, even with a safety net.

Jacques Mayol

Freediving is a deep dive with breath-holding. As a sport discipline, it appeared relatively recently, just over half a century ago. It was Jacques Mayol who became the athlete who discovered fundamentally new depths.

Before his record was believed that the body of a freediver physiologically cannot withstand water pressure at depths of more than 40-50 meters. But it turned out that the human body is capable of much greater loads. In 1976, Maiole reached the 100-meter mark. And his last record in 1983 was 105 meters. For such achievements, Majole was nicknamed the dolphin man.
