Speech expert named 5 ways to pump up the gift of persuasion so you’ll be listened to and respected

So, we are talking about the example of a fitnesa treneris. In fact, it is the same as a teacher, except that you often have to teach not children or students, but your peers or even those who are older. In this situation, automatically increases the load on the option that athletes often discount – the gift of persuasion.

Its presence is important for a representative of any public profession. In situations where someone’s health and well-being directly depends on this gift, pumping the option becomes mandatory.

If we didn’t believe the actor on stage, only he suffers. If we didn’t believe the coach and didn’t act on his recommendation, both – the specialist (since he is not trusted, the flow of the client will not be) and the client will suffer. The latter can either simply not get the desired result, or suffer – get injured.

Important! Any specialist must be a professional of his work. Convince in what you do not know – this is quackery. Pumping the “gift” here will help, but it will not be for the good of all. Therefore, it is worth starting with obtaining quality knowledge. But to gain experience, you will already need to work with additional options. What are they? A list of important points to work through was compiled by speech expert Seda Kasparova.

Speech, manner of speaking, intonation, and even the inner sense of self. Those who have to communicate with people should pay attention to all this.

Here are some points to keep in mind. Let’s take the realities of a fitness trainer’s job as an example.

1. Drive away the imposter

Often people hesitate to give advice and generally express their opinion, even if it is correct, because they are sure that no one will listen to them. This is how impostor syndrome can manifest itself, because of which we do not believe in ourselves and think that we simply do not have the right to give advice.

It can be very, very difficult for a coach with imposter syndrome. Everything will give away this insecurity, because the body will be clenched and tense, the voice – quiet, speech – indistinct. It is unlikely that the client will trust you if you appear to him like this.

The only question he will have is, “How will this uptight person lead me to athletic performance and a beautiful body?”. There will be no trust or teamwork to speak of.

Imposter syndrome is a very common phenomenon, but it can and should be fought. Remember that you are not a stranger in this gym. You are a coach whose job it is to inspire, persuade, and guide. Surely you have sports experience, achievements, victories. Write down everything you have achieved on a sheet of paper. Don’t forget to look in it.

2. Learn to use your first name

The results of your training will depend on how much trust you establish with your client. Of course, a variety of things affect establishing trust, but one of the not-so-obvious things is a person’s name.

Call the client by their first name, and exactly how they want to be addressed. This can be clarified directly. This way you will definitely favor the person, because hearing your own name is very, very pleasant.

3. Work on your voice

If you mumble, moo, stammer, you are unlikely to become the leader that customers will follow. Speak clearly, confidently and with a descending intonation – so that the tone of the phrase decreases towards its end. This way your voice will sound more open and deep. The interlocutor who speaks this way, disposes to himself.

4. Prepare in advance

You may be anxious before a training session, especially at the beginning of your career. This is completely normal. To reduce your anxiety, practice “on cats” – tell one of your close friends and relatives how to perform a particular exercise.

Explain simply, avoid special terminology, don’t gibberish. Speak in a measured manner, pause and emphasize. Remember that a fast pace is a sign of insecurity. Slow yourself down so that you don’t give away your excitement.

5. Learn to point out mistakes

A trainer has to notice and correct clients’ mistakes. This is his responsibility. If this is not done, the effect of the exercise will be zero or, worst of all, the training can be harmful. But you have to learn to correct mistakes in such a way that the person does not get upset and does not lose motivation.

Do not raise your voice, do not swear, but gently and confidently point out the mistake. Someone may find it uncomfortable to correct, because the person was trying, but remember that you are the coach. Your goal is to teach you how to do things the way they should be done. Encouraging mistakes does not lead to that.

When correcting a mistake, point out what the client is doing well. In this way you will shift the focus away from the failure and motivate the client and other exercises to do the right thing.

By the way, another useful lifehack is to share your own experiences. Think of stories when you too have failed to complete an exercise or achieve a goal. Telling about such cases, you even more dispose of the client. This will undoubtedly affect their trust in you and the results of your work.
