The Daily Minimum: How to walk 10,000 steps every day

Walking is one of the simple activities that helps you lose weight and maintain your immune system. But today – especially in remote areas – we walk less and less. It is often very difficult to force yourself to get up and take an extra walk. That’s why some people set a daily norm of 10,000 steps. Here are some tips for those who find it difficult to find time for this activity.

Combine it with a hobby

Many activities can be combined with a walk and benefit from it. Do you like to read? Opt for a walk with headphones instead of a couch and a book: an audiobook and fresh air – what could be better? Engrossed in your favorite activity, you will pass the norm without noticing it.

You can listen to music, lectures and podcasts on the go – whatever your tastes.

Find like-minded people

It’s much easier to exercise with someone, encouraging each other on “lazy” days. This could be family, friends, classmates, or coworkers. Even if you don’t live near each other, pick a meeting place that’s within walking distance of each of you and you’ll be halfway there.

If there are no sports enthusiasts in your neighborhood, you can spend time on a walk while talking on the phone.

Do not use delivery in the city

Instead of ordering a pizza for the movie, you can go to the pizzeria yourself, or better yet, go get the right ingredients and cook it yourself. And in the nearest store all the products may not be, then you will have to walk a couple hundred steps.

And, for example, instead of an ordered bouquet delivered by courier, it is much nicer to receive a bouquet collected by your own hands or handed personally.

Combine with work

Many refer to the fact that because of work there is no time even for a walk. However, those who are busy in the office from morning to evening have the opportunity to walk the coveted 10,000 steps. Getting up early and walk a couple of stops, or even the whole way on foot is not only good for your health, but also for raising your mood for the day. During lunch break you can also allocate a couple of minutes for a walk. And in the evening, choose a farther store on the way home or take a walk in the park with the kids.

Set a goal and set a reward

First, you need to figure out what you’re going to walk 10,000 steps every day for. Is it to lose weight? To keep your body in shape? To prove you can do it? In any case, small rewards will help to increase motivation and not give up. For example, for a month of meeting the norm, buy a thing you’ve wanted for a long time, or allow yourself a favorite, but not very healthy food.

Find interesting locations

Even in a city where you’ve lived for years, you can find unfamiliar streets, museums, and more. Take a previously uncharted route or search for unusual places online. Have a photo shoot or just walk around and look at the views – it’s up to you. This is especially true now, when there are still Christmas decorations and decorations on the streets.
