Unfortunately, anyone can become a victim of a street attack, so you should always know how to act. It should be noted right away that scenes from action movies that have been watched to death are unlikely to help you in a fight. Do not even try to repeat the techniques of movie characters in life, it is very dangerous and can cost you your health. A professional fighter told us what to do if you are attacked.
How to protect yourself from the opponent’s blow
Professional fighter of the “Our Cause” league, multiple champion and medalist of Stavropol, North Caucasus Federal District and Southern Federal District.
The first thing you should do if you find yourself in a street fight is to press your chin to your body, look at your opponent from the side and grit your teeth. If you look directly at your opponent and talk to him, he will be able to break your jaw even with a low blow.
Try to practice your reaction in any training. If you have this skill well developed, you will be able to group yourself and strike back. When an opponent attacks you, put your hands to your head, cover your face and neck, and tense your torso. Take a couple of steps towards the opponent to throw off his inertia of the blow. The opponent will not be able to unfold his arm completely, and his attack will be extinguished by your forward movement. After that you can counterattack.
How and where to hit
In a street fight, you do not need to shy away from prohibited techniques, which are very much disliked in sports. In this case, your health and even your life will be at stake. If you are attacked by a man, do not be afraid to kick in the groin. To strike this blow correctly, you must first extend your knee, and then straighten the rest of the leg upward with a sharp movement.
There is a rule that I was told as a child in self-defense classes – it is better never to kick above the waist. If you attack your opponent’s body, your leg will likely be grabbed and you will end up on the ground. In competition, the bottom position is useful, but in a street fight with multiple opponents, it’s a failure. You’ll end up on your back, and you’ll be able to be taken down by two. In a scuffle, try to stay in a fighting stance and don’t fall down. If you are going to kick, aim for your opponent’s shin or knee.
What to do if you are knocked to the ground
A street fight most often ends in a struggle. If your opponent does knock you down and is on top of you, grab your opponent’s legs and pull him down. After that, swing your elbow, pull your opponent’s legs up to your face and deliver slashing elbow strikes to the collarbone area or to the eyes.
The main skill that comes in handy in a fight
One of the most important skills that will come in handy in a scuffle is the ability to run fast. Regular running workouts will help you avoid injuries and other detrimental consequences. Run more often and practice acceleration. If you are attacked, run with all your legs at every opportunity.

In any fight, not only the power of the blow is important, but also its accuracy. Even a weak attack can incapacitate your opponent if it is made clearly on target. Read more about how to develop punching accuracy here.
