A vacation in your hometown is not a sentence at all, but a rare opportunity to look at the familiar and familiar from a completely new angle. Try on the role of a tourist and finally get to those places that you never have enough time for in your normal life. And remember why you love your city and why you still live here.

Below are some ideas for a vacation in Moscow. But I’m sure they can be successfully adapted for any city if you know its strengths and listen to your desires.
See the city from the water
Almost every major Russian city is divided into parts by a river, and almost none of the locals have ever taken a water transportation ride on it. Excursion streetcars run along the Moscow River, and recently the authorities announced the launch of the city’s regular river transportation system, which will make water rides even easier.
In smaller cities you can take a look at familiar landscapes from the “deck” of private boats, jet skis or even saps. The main thing is to study in advance the rules of behavior in a particular water area and agree on the most comfortable option for all participants.
Spend the day like at a resort
In Moscow, as in other million-strong cities, there are many areas for beach recreation. Yes, there will be no sea in walking distance. But there will be outdoor swimming pools, for example, in Luzhniki and Sokolniki, at yacht clubs on the Moskva River, as well as beaches on the nearest reservoirs – in Pirogovo or Klyazma, in Serebryany Bor or at the Dzerzhinsky quarry.
Allowing yourself to wait out the summer heat on a chaise lounge, distracted only by periodic bathing, is like going to Turkey for a weekend. By the way, some recreation areas have all-inclusive rates, which brings Moscow Region vacation even closer to the standards of the Mediterranean.
“Go into the forests” for an eco-walk with a picnic
Surprisingly, but within the boundaries of the Moscow Ring Road there are still “wild” forest areas, in which you can even get lost if you want to. Bittsevsky Park or Losiny Ostrov are not burdened with entertainment infrastructure and allow you to feel the complete unity with nature, as in some national park.
There are eco-routes for different levels of training – from a couple of hours to a whole day. For their passage is definitely worth rewarding yourself with a picnic in nature, but it is better to prepare for it in advance and bring food with you. The list of necessary items is collected in the article at the link.
Take up vorkout
Vacation is the best time to start “postponed” cases. And above all to take care of your health. It can be difficult to fit regular exercise into your daily routine – it’s much easier to start training gradually, increasing the time and complexity of exercises every day.
The infrastructure of Moscow’s parks allows for this. I, for example, train in Neskuchny Garden and meet the same enthusiasts there every day. A series of weekends is the best time to switch to a healthy lifestyle. In addition, you will have time to study and comprehend the theoretical basis – by video lessons or in pairs with a trainer.
Discover the city from the gastronomic side
Every day dozens of new gastronomic locations open in Moscow: restaurants, coffee shops, markets and spontaneous festival food markets. And every day there are thousands of reasons to successfully ignore them. But that’s in the middle of the workday, it’s not like that on vacation!
Start your own urban foodie marathon: have breakfast at a specialty coffee shop, lunch at a new gastromarket, and dinner reservations at a Michelin-listed restaurant with a touring chef. Don’t deny yourself anything (especially desserts!). A vacation is a vacation to make the best memories.
And if you do decide to travel to different places in search of gastronomic delights, we tell you where to go in the article at the link.
