“Closed up at home for two months. The result -30 kg.” Personal story and doctor’s opinion

Olesya Muzyka

musician, singer, dancer

Throughout my life I tried to lose weight, but all attempts were in vain until I fell in love. Emotional swings affected my figure. It all started with the fact that at one point I ran out of money, separated from my husband, had no friends around.

There was a desire to just be alone. I got arrhythmia, my heart was racing. At night it prevented me from sleeping. From excess of feelings I often woke up in the middle of the night and cried. Dancing helped to put my thoughts in order.

I did not go out of the house at all, as money was scarce. I had a lot of cereals, also ordered chicken for a month, grapefruit, because it can stand for months and does not spoil, and also kefir, cheese, eggs. There was nothing else in my refrigerator.

My diet was like this:

  • breakfast: two boiled eggs, two slices of cheese;
  • lunch: boiled chicken, buckwheat/rice/ macaroni;
  • dinner: buckwheat/glass of kefir/grapefruit.

For two months everything was like a blur. I had no contact with anyone, distracted myself as much as I could by watching TV series, reading books and dancing.

I managed to get out of this state only after two months when I looked at myself in the mirror and was shocked. I saw a new person with a slim figure. When I weighed myself, I found on the scale -30 kg.

Thanks to the dramatic change in my appearance, I had a burst of energy and desire to move and leave the house. Unfortunately, the weight stayed off for about a year until I started eating a lot again.

Psychologist’s opinion

There is such a concept as an acute reaction to stress, which develops in response to life changes, whether it is the loss of a loved one, the experience of separation, the risk or fear of serious illness, loss/change of home, work, migration. In the case of the heroine, individual peculiarities, predisposition and vulnerability could also work. It’s the principle: where there is weakness, there is tearing. Depression, psychosomatics, sleep loss or hypersomnambulism may manifest themselves, a person may eat stress, or a piece of food may not go down his throat.

In the example, the girl’s symptomatology and materiality, as well as psychological defense mechanisms, allowed her to allocate resources in a relatively safe manner. Although from a general medical point of view losing 30 pounds in two months is not healthy, it can cause gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, as well as being a symptom of a depressive disorder.

How the body reacts to acute stress

Everyone reacts differently. Some people have increased heart rate up to the violation of rhythm, increased metabolism, that is, the body spends energy due to the excitement of cardiac activity and increased metabolic processes. Such a person is excitable and can be irritable, aggressive.

In others, the body begins to accumulate, consumes more food, becomes lethargic, apathetic, up to stupor.

In situations of acute stress, departure from life (both death and separation) of a significant loved one, it is important to enlist the support of loved ones, friends, relatives, take a walk, engage in creative activities. A specialist will also help a person to survive a difficult situation.

There are also phones of free crisis centers in Russia, where in a round-the-clock mode specialists are ready to provide psychological help, because a person can be on the edge, which requires help.

Opinion of a nutritionist

Nutritionist, gastroenterologist, candidate of medical sciences, clinical pharmacologist

First of all, it is necessary to realize that such a diet is extremely uncomplex and nutrient-deficient. It does not provide the body with a sufficient amount of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals necessary for its normal functioning.

Therefore, people with certain diseases and conditions, such as pregnancy, lactation, diabetes, kidney failure, as well as children, such a diet is not suitable at all.

What consequences can lead to?

One of the main problems of sharp weight loss on chicken breast and kefir is a long deficit diet. The body, not receiving enough nutrients, begins to use fat and muscle reserves for energy needs, which can cause a decrease in total muscle mass (not fat), metabolic deterioration and disruption of internal organs.

In addition, abrupt and improper weight loss can have serious psychological consequences. Many people seek quick results and therefore use diets that are usually based on stressful calorie reduction. Such diets can cause many problems such as depression, anxiety, asthenic states and eating disorders.

Losing weight due to stress is a special category that can have even greater health consequences. Excessive strain on the body during stress can cause disruption of the nervous and endocrine systems, impairment of general health and immunity, and vascular and heart problems.

In addition, stress can lead to increased appetite and metabolic disorders later on, which will negate all the results.
