Girls with shapes: what body positivity is and how to live with it

They like themselves no matter what, and that’s the main thing. What’s it like for you?

Bodypositive fans are taking over the vastness of the Internet. And while many are perplexed by the topic: how could they let themselves get so neglected? Others desperately defend in comments the idea that if you do not like the shapes of bodypositive models, then the problem is in your head, not in the girls who love their bodies so much that they do not see the point in exercising and exhausting themselves with excruciating hunger strikes.

The September issue of Cosmopolitan caused a storm of emotions on the part of the public. For the first time in history, model Tess Holiday appeared on the cover of the glossy magazine, promoting body positivity. For my part, I can note the fact that it is good that the issue was not released on the eve of summer and the pages of the publication are not full of recipes for diets and detox programs. Otherwise the phytonyashchiks would have had a brain explosion.

What is body positivity and where did it come from?

Bodypositive is the brightest and at the same time the most controversial trend of recent years in the sports and beauty industry. Its basic idea is that it is necessary to love yourself in your body. After all, it is more important than being beautiful but unhappy. And in general, that everything that is natural is not ugly. The adherents of bodypositive are convinced that you should not be afraid to expose yourself and your imperfections. Big breasts? Get a close-up. Stretch marks on your legs? Wrap yourself in tight minis and take pictures for social media.

Love yourself any way you can

At the same time, one of the goals of the movement sounds generally adequate: to form in society a loyal attitude to those who do not fall under the standards imposed on society, and thus protect them from unjustified harassment.

Problems in the head: don’t do that

The wording that “if you don’t like the body of a bodypositive model, then the problem is in your head” has traveled the world. After all, these girls do not comfort themselves by buying an unnecessary fitness subscription, do not suffer because of the extra piece of cake eaten and do not worry about turning out in a photo “better than in life”. What about you?

You can’t pump your abs with your mind

Of course, this all sounds extremely idealistic. And in general, the movement itself does not deny self-care. Girls with forms wear beautiful dresses, paint and pose for numerous photo shoots with pleasure. They don’t care at all about the fact that “abs can’t be pumped with the power of thought”, because they are not bothered at all by one big circle in the abdominal area instead of 6 powerful cubes.

Who to watch?

So what is body positivity: an escape from your own complexes or an incredible fortitude in accepting yourself “just the way you are”? Personally, looking at the photos in the girls’ accounts motivates me even more to pack my gym bag and head to the gym. What do you think?
