“Got rid of my back pain.” How working with my brain helped me to correct my scoliosis

“I am a swimming coach by education, but I didn’t see myself in this profession. So, being still a student, I started to study the topic of fitness and go to the gym. I ran on the track, pulled weights and sometimes trained for three hours.

I thought that the longer I worked out, the better the result would be. But I was wrong.

Later I learned about neurofitness, a set of exercises for developing certain brain functions, and changed my method of training. I also studied smart fitness – a type of training aimed at improving the health of the body. It includes working deep muscles, competent selection of physical activity, without exhausting load.

It took me about three years to study this direction, so that I broke forever the pattern “beauty requires sacrifice”. My body flexibility and attitude have improved dramatically. It literally changed my life. Now I go to the gym no more than twice a year and work out for 45 minutes. At home I spend only 15-20 minutes a day.

For me, beauty is all about health, a life without pain, mobility of all joints and optimal work of all muscles.

What I do gives energy, not takes it away, reduces stress, improves sleep, gets rid of swelling. In addition, smart training has helped me in correcting scoliosis and reducing back pain. At the same time, doctors said that the situation is incorrigible.

In this matter, regularity and system are important. I have been practicing neurofitness/smart fitness for 10-15 minutes every day for three years now. I do exercises both without weight and with weight: on the thoracic region, spine, pelvic floor, abdominal muscles.

From my experience I can say that working with the brain and nervous system provides incredible opportunities to manage stress, improve gastrointestinal function, vestibular system, vision and much more.

Physician’s Opinion

Sergey Aleksutov

leading traumatologist-orthopedic surgeon, podiatrist (specialist in foot diseases)

“Brain development is about forming new neural connections.”

For example, improving the coordination of the non-driven arm can have a positive effect on increasing muscle mass on that side. It is known that with scoliotic spinal deformity, the muscles on one side of the spine are hypertonic, and on the other side, the tone needs to be strengthened.

In her example, the heroine of the story switched from intensive training to flexibility and stretching exercises. This may have been a factor in the positive effect on scoliosis. Gentle methods of stretching muscles and ligaments, such as with yoga or Pilates, are recommended to improve the health of the spine. Relaxing massage also has a positive effect on the muscles and spine.

To strengthen the muscle corset, it is useful to engage in swimming (proper technique is mandatory). To combat the development of scoliosis and other diseases of the spine and joints, doctors can prescribe orthopedic products. They support the spine in the correct position and reduce the additional load from it.

In order to determine which exercises are most effective and safe, it is recommended to consult with a doctor.

To all of the above, I would add that regularity is important in any workout. Infrequent exercise, even with the most correct and effective methods, is unlikely to lead to the desired results.

It can be difficult to develop a habit at once. In this case, you can start by regularly practicing the simplest and most accessible exercises, such as the familiar exercise. Developing a healthy body and brain is a great habit that will be good for your health at any age.
