More than 20 million squash fans around the world play the sport for different purposes. Someone knows about its incredible fat-burning power, someone acquires new useful connections, as it is a favorite pastime of businessmen, or, on the contrary, turns his head off. But almost everyone will tell you that in squash especially feels the moment of competition and rivalry. You go one-on-one with your opponent, success depends only on you, your correct strategy and distribution of forces.

Do you also have the fire of excitement in you? You can feel it all already on August 6 at the National Squash Center. The International Squash Tournament “MTS Squash Russian Open 2019” will take place here . There is a place in the competition for both professionals and amateurs who have recently picked up a racket for the first time. MTS will be the title partner of the tournament.

Spectators and fans will be able to watch the competition of players in the Elite, B, C and Beginners categories of the Russian and world ranking. And the main cherry on the cake is a real battle for a ticket to the World Squash Championship within the framework of the PSA Challenger Tour qualification tournament.

A chance to get to the World Championships bypassing the rankings

It is the dream of every professional player to go to the World Championships, try his hand and compete against the best of the best. To do this, you need to get into the ranking of the 64 best players in the world. But there is another way to qualify.

Up to seven athletes in the women’s and men’s categories can qualify for the World Championship. Five of those seven places will go to the winners of the qualifying tournaments. Each year the PSA International determines which Challenger Tour level tournaments will qualify for the World Championships. A number of criteria are used for this purpose, such as geographical location, reputation of the tournament organizers, opinion of the World Cup organizers and others.

This year the tournament with PSA qualification status will be held in Russia for the first time. Based on the results of the “MTS Squash Russian Open 2019”, the winners in the men’s and women’s categories will automatically become participants of the upcoming World Squash Championships 2019-2020.

“Ours” in the lists

The full PSA men’s and women’s nets at the tournament have already been formed. Our country will be represented this year by six players at once.

In the women’s category, Russia’s first racket player, member of the national team, holder of the first place in the European ranking GU17 category, winner of many European tournaments – Alesya Alyoshina, two-time Russian squash champion, member of the national team – Ekaterina Marusan, Irina Belyaeva – repeated champion of Russia, squash coach since 2003, holder of the 70th world ranking in 2009, as well as another athlete playing for the Russian national team – Varvara Yesina– will make their debut.

In the men’s category Vladislav Titov, Russian champion and member of the national team, and Alexander Rozhansky, a young player with great promise, will compete for a ticket to the World Cup.

You can cheer for your favorite player, support the tournament participants, or even try your hand in the Beginners category (pre-registration is required). MTS will be the title partner of the tournament. From August 6 to 11 every participant will be able to go on the court and prove that it is easy to be better every day.
