Urologist doctor named the most dangerous habits for men’s health

Valentin Rubanov

MD, PhD, endourologist, urologist-oncologist, Hadassah Clinic Skolkovo branch office

“Modern urology has a vast amount of information about possible problems and causes that reliably correlate with certain diseases of the male genital organs. By eliminating these causes, we can actively engage in prevention and health maintenance.”

Let’s break down the most dangerous habits for men.

Abstinence

Regular emptying of the ejaculatory ducts is an important part of male health. This process is controlled by a number of natural mechanisms, including nocturnal pollutions (involuntary ejaculation).

That is, with prolonged abstinence and the accumulation of ejaculate, or semen, in the body, there is involuntary emptying. Nature has provided the body with a constant production of both sperm and prostate secretion, which is part of the ejaculate.

With prolonged abstinence, congestion occurs. In most cases, they are accompanied by discomfort and a feeling of looseness in the groin, scrotum and perineum. After ejaculation, the man, as a rule, feels significant relief and disappearance of unpleasant symptoms.

According to Valentin Rubanov, for good health ejaculation in men should occur two or three times a week. In the absence of a permanent sexual partner, you can resort to the help of masturbation.

Emptying can be initiated by self-stimulation, which does not contradict normal physiology.

Overcooling

The cause of deterioration of male health can be hypothermia. Exposure to cold causes unpleasant symptoms, including frequent urination, discomfort in the perineal area, sudden urges to urinate and difficulty urinating. They can also occur after contrasting procedures in the bath or shower.

It is known that hypothermia affects the overall immune system, which controls most viruses and bacteria. Therefore, herpetic infection, including genital herpes, as well as chronic infection of the seminal tract, particularly prostatitis, often worsens after exposure to cold.

Today, modern urology effectively manages the treatment of chronic prostatitis of bacterial nature, as well as recurrent herpes. Together with an infectious disease specialist it is possible to achieve impressive results in the treatment of these diseases.

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)

Modern medicine makes it possible to effectively fight almost all sexually transmitted infections, including gonorrhea, chlamydia, ureaplasma, mycoplasmas.

The main danger for people in terms of STDs is not urethritis (i.e. inflammatory process in the urethra), but viruses that can affect not only the quality of life, but also its duration. We are talking about human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B and C. These infections pose a really serious threat to men.

There is still no contraception with 100 percent effectiveness, except fidelity to a regular sexual partner.

Obesity

More people in the world die from obesity than from starvation. Being overweight leads to serious health problems. Almost all organs are negatively affected, including the male genitals and reproductive system.

The fact is that subcutaneous adipose tissue is a hormone-producing organ, which mainly produces hormones belonging to the group of female sex hormones. They, in turn, resist the action of male sex hormones, in particular testosterone.

This leads to suppressed libido, decreased muscle mass, poor sleep quality and increased depression. In addition, there is a deterioration of erectile function, spermatogenesis is impaired, which can lead to problems with independent conception of a child.

Smoking

Modern research confirms that tobacco smoking is one of the two most common factors contributing to the development of cancer in the urinary system. The kidneys, ureter and bladder are particularly vulnerable organs.

However, in addition to smoking, there is a second important factor that also influences the development of malignant tumors in the urinary system. This is contact with fumes and chemicals used in industry.

Other causes

In addition to the above factors, male health is affected by a number of physiological changes that occur with age. Diseases such as prostate adenoma, prostate cancer, deteriorating erection quality, and decreasing testosterone levels come to the forefront.

There is not yet a single preventive measure that works reliably to slow down or reduce the risks of all these age-related changes.

First of all, the speed and degree of expression of age-related changes are determined by genetic predisposition. That is why modern urology emphasizes early detection of such changes with subsequent effective treatment or correction.

Also serious impact on men’s health can have genetic mutations that are associated with the development of oncology. As Valentin Rubanov notes, there is no effective prevention of congenital and acquired mutations in genes, but doctors have all the possibilities of their early and timely detection in their arsenal, which will prevent cancer at an early stage.
