Is it worth going on vacation by car?

It is more pleasant and convenient to travel by car, but there are a few nuances.

Car tourism appeared in the early XX century, but it became popular recently. All because of the fact that their cars began to appear in many people, and also improved the quality of roads.

Modern cars are so diverse that everyone will find a car to his liking. For traveling, you can buy a passenger car, a motorhome or an SUV. A family or a group of friends can easily fit into a crossover. The only thing left is to choose your companions.

But there are those who prefer auto planes or trains. Why? Let’s understand the pros and cons of automobile tourism.

Advantages

  • Freedom of movement and route. Sometimes you want to stop halfway to admire the beauty or take a fragrant coffee at the gas station – such an opportunity will definitely be there!
  • A lot of impressions and a constant sense of adventure. Especially if you are traveling with company.
  • All things are at your fingertips. There is always an opportunity to get a thermal mug from the trunk without disturbing an unfamiliar neighbor.
  • You can take any luggage with you, no one limits you by weight.
  • Your pet is always with you. You won’t have to torture your four-legged friend in a luggage compartment or cage.

However, every aspect of our life has not only pluses, but also minuses.

Disadvantages

  • Spending on gasoline and toll roads. Sometimes traveling by your own car can be more expensive than a flight or train ride.
  • Breakdown of the car. For example, a flat tire. The owner of the car and those traveling with him will have to deal with this unpleasantness.
  • Fines for violations of traffic rules and speed limits, which are waiting at every step.
  • Accidents. They, unfortunately, sometimes happen on the highways at the most unforeseen moment.
  • Fatigue. Even the most experienced drivers need to rest after a few hours of continuous driving. It is good if during the trip you can swap with someone, but not always there is such an opportunity.
  • Passing the border. Sometimes this moment takes a very long time and is tiring.

Check the car before traveling

Before traveling, you need to take your car for a tech inspection. Remember that even if you are an ace at driving, there is a lot you may not know about how things work in a car. Don’t skimp on professional mechanics, have them inspect your car before you travel and you’ll know for sure it’s okay.

Getting into a bad situation can happen to any motorist. Skills and the most reliable car don’t guarantee that you won’t get into an accident.

You should always be prepared for trouble. Here’s what you should have in your car in case of an emergency:

  • first aid kit;
  • a spare tire or flat tire;
  • jerk rope;
  • fire extinguisher;
  • technical fluids;
  • emergency stop sign.
