Where is the most comfortable place to live? 10 cities to move to that we never thought possible

Chicago.

The list also included Russian locations with good ecology and infrastructure for sports. Spoiler: not Moscow and St. Petersburg.

What are the best cities in the world to move to? What places have good ecology and comfortable conditions for life in general and sports?

Experts answer.

Traditionally, lists of the most popular and environmentally friendly capitals of the world are headed by expensive cities. Among them, for example, are Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Singapore and Oslo. But if you’re thinking about moving, it’s better to consider the less obvious options.

For city dwellers now it is important not only the availability of jobs and salary levels, but also the ecological situation in the city, infrastructure for sports, recreation and health promotion. Therefore, when choosing a place of residence, it is important to look not only at large cities, but also at those that are developing dynamically and offer comfortable conditions. We asked our experts about the best places to move to.

Vice-President of the public organization PravTourSoyuz

One of the most comfortable and green cities in Europe. Residents actively support bicycle transportation. There are no enterprises with harmful emissions here, and the government plans to create energy-generating wind parks in the foreseeable future, fully providing the city with electricity. Helsinki also has many of the world’s most unusual saunas.

Chicago, USA

If you want to get away and settle down in a big city, take a closer look at Chicago. This modern sprawling city with its many skyscrapers and Lake Michigan, the largest in the US, wins your heart instantly. Art galleries, parks, waterfront – everything for a quiet and measured life is here. Fans of active life will not get bored either: one should go deep into the forest of skyscrapers and immediately get into the boiling life of the metropolis. But still the city is in the ecological top, densely greened and constantly insistently hints residents to abandon personal transportation – and those, it must be said, obey.

Hierro, Spain

Alexander: Those who want privacy will like Hierro – one of the Spanish Canary Islands. Comfortable weather, measured rhythm of life and adequate prices – is it not a dream? And what ecology… Thanks to hydro- and wind power plants the island independently provides its inhabitants with electricity. By the way, Hierro is a UNESCO biosphere reserve.

And what about Russia?

In my opinion, the best cities to move to are not Moscow, St. Petersburg and Krasnodar with their frankly overloaded infrastructure. But more quiet and peaceful ones, such as Tyumen, Khanty-Mansiysk, Belokurikha, Divnogorsk, Tobolsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Stavropol, Pyatigorsk, Zelenogradsk and Svetlogorsk. It is very important that the city be clean, with interesting natural locations nearby, and in the city itself – cultural facilities and all conditions for sports (running and bicycle paths, ski tracks).

Pyatigorsk

Pyatigorsk

Of the above list, half are Siberian cities. Anna says that this region is most suitable for a comfortable life. All seasons of the year are pronounced there, picturesque and diverse landscapes, a climate favorable for health, there is no crowding of the population, there is space all around.

Advice from an expert: before deciding to move to another city, live in it for a couple or three months. That way you will get to know it from the inside. When we look at a city through the eyes of a tourist, we are fascinated first of all by the novelty of the place. But the question of “where to live?” should be approached rationally, so that you don’t have bitter regrets later on.
