“Suffering is an integral part of the human experience. Every one of us has experienced difficult moments at some time or another. More often than not, we look for causes in external circumstances and rarely consider that this suffering may be related to our uncovered needs.”

What are unmet needs?

Unmet needs are emotional and psychological needs that have gone unmet in our past or current life. They can be related to various areas of existence including childhood, interpersonal relationships, self-actualization, and other aspects. When these needs go unmet, they can become the source of our suffering.

Unmet needs play a key role in our psychological well-being. If we don’t recognize and satisfy them, they can manifest as stress, anxiety, depression and other psychological problems.

To improve your quality of life, figure out why certain tasks remain unmet. There may be some internal or external reasons that prevent them from being satisfied. Understanding and working on unclosed gestalts will reduce the level of psychological tension and promote personal development.

How to identify uncovered needs?

1. Self-reflection

Try to reflect on periods in your life when you felt intense suffering. What was going on then? What feelings and thoughts did you have at that time? Pay attention to frequently recurring emotions such as anger, fear, sadness or frustration. This will help identify areas where you may have unmet needs.

2. Consultation with a psychologist

It is helpful to consult a professional psychologist. He or she will help identify your unmet needs and develop strategies to address them.

3. analyze your relationships

Take a look at your interpersonal relationships. What are their dynamics and quality? Conflicts and difficulties in relationships may indicate unmet needs in the areas of communication, understanding and support.

4. Self-help

Explore various self-help techniques such as meditation, psychological practices, and therapeutic writing. These will help you to better understand yourself and your needs. Be kind to yourself and accept your emotions and needs without judgment. Remember that it is normal and natural to feel “out of sorts” when your desires are not being met. The important thing is that the first step to improving your life has already been taken.

How do you satisfy unmet needs?

Satisfying unmet gestalts is a process that can take time and effort. It is important to develop appropriate strategies and take action. This may include connecting with loved ones, finding new hobbies, working on self-development, and other steps.

Create an action plan to address your needs. Break it down into specific topics and implement it step-by-step.

Understanding your unrealized desires and working to satisfy them can significantly improve your psychological well-being and reduce “existential distress”. Remember that this process is individual and may require support from loved ones or a psychologist.
