Eid al-Fitr: what can be eaten on the holiday and are there restrictions in training?

Religious events are something special and intimate for believing people. One of the main Muslim holidays, Eid al-Adha, is approaching. In Russia it will be celebrated from the evening of the 27th day until sunset on June 30. The main celebrations will come on June 28.

In some Muslim countries the celebration may last longer. In Saudi Arabia, for example, Eid al-Adha lasts for two weeks. The dates change every year, it begins 70 days after another event – Uraza-abayram. We tell you how Eid al-Adha takes place, what you can eat and how to train.

Hajj

Everything starts a month and a half before Eid al-Adha, at this time it is customary to make Hajj – pilgrimage to the holy places in Mecca. At least once in a life every Muslim should make it, it is one of the basics of Islam. During Hajj a believer raises the level of his religious and moral development, and the pilgrimage before Eid al-Adha symbolizes mercy, kindness and love in their highest manifestation.

What is important to observe?

A very important condition for the holiday is cleanliness. It is necessary not only to clean the house, but also to prepare the outfit in advance. In the morning on the day of Eid al-Adha, Muslims perform a complete ablution. It is not allowed to be unkempt or in dirty clothes during the celebration. Heavy physical labor should be avoided if possible.

No one trains on this day, as it is customary to spend it measured and quietly in the circle of loved ones. Of course, there are exceptions, but I decided to follow the traditions, because Muslims have two most important holidays, and this is one of them.

It is also forbidden to quarrel, argue and show cruelty. On this day, every person should be gracious and kind. Helping others is what is really welcomed.

In some Russian regions, the day of Eid al-Adha is an official day off. Residents of Adygea, Karachay-Cherkessia, Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria, Ingushetia, Chechnya, Bashkiria and Tatarstan will have a day off.

How to eat on the holiday?

One of the main traditions is the sacrifice. It takes place immediately after the morning prayer, most often believers slaughter a ram, but there are also other animals, the process itself should be as humane as possible. With this gesture Muslims remember the feat of Prophet Ibrahim, who was ready to sacrifice his own son in the name of faith. The image of the prophet is associated with devotion to religion and mental purity.

A third of the meat, according to custom, is given to the needy, those who are less fortunate in life, the rest is divided among relatives and friends. It cannot be thrown away or stored, so everything is used for cooking. The more food that can be made, the better.

Shodmon Nazokatov: There are no other restrictions in terms of food during the holiday. One can eat anything, but only after receiving the meat of the sacrificial animal. It should be eaten first of all.

How does the holiday go?

The day begins with prayers, early in the morning at 6-7 am in the mosque they perform festive namaz. Then follows the main part of the holiday – sacrifice, and most people perform this ritual. It takes place on special sites, which are set aside for the holiday in the settlements. After that some people visit the graves of their relatives to pray for their deceased ancestors.

The rest of the time Muslims go to visit each other and relatives, every believer in the days of the holiday tries to gather as many guests as possible. Traditions of hospitality, of course, are reflected: tables are set in every house, most often people prefer national dishes.

The traditions of different religions are often an unexplored side of other people’s lives. By studying them, we begin to better understand how those who live near us see the world.
